'Be Mine' is essentially is a novel about an adulterous wife and the consequences of an affair she has after receiving a series of notes from a secret admirer.
I thought this was a great idea for a novel, but even though the writing is reasonable there are a number of significant problems with the book.
The most significant of these is that none of the characters are particularly likeable. Sherry, the main character is shallow, selfish, obsessed with looks and doesn't have any real friends. Her husband is also shallow and vain, as are the lover and the son. This really makes it difficult to care about what happens to them, which would be the only saving grace in light of the thin and predictable plot.
The other strange thing is the amount of dead animals in this book. After a while it became quite disconcerting; a deer that is run over, squirrels being shot, dead lambs in poems, even on the first page there is a dead bunny on the driveway!
One to be avoided!
