Book Description

3 Feb 2011

As one of the most respected spiritual explorers of recent times, Ram Dass sparked a revolution with the publication of his 2-million-copy classic, Be Here Now. Since then, he has been a beacon for spiritual seekers worldwide, challenging us to find new sources of meaning and purpose in our lives.

Be Love Now is a remarkable blend of autobiography and timeless spiritual insights. From his beginnings as a Harvard psychologist and psychedelic adventurer to his profound encounters with his Indian guru, Neem Karoli Baba, and moving beyond the reawakening brought on by his near-fatal illness, Ram Dass strikes a practical, humorous, soul-stirring chord in today's egotistical and lonely world. While offering us his rich life experiences, he also holds out a timeless, wonderfully universal adventure that will open our hearts and minds.

2.0 out of 5 stars love is all you read 13 Feb 2011
Format:Paperback
I was considering buying Ram Dass's 40 year old 'Be Here Now' but as I was about to order I noticed he had a new book coming out the very next day. 'This must be serendipity' I thought, so ordered this instead.
I must say I was disappointed. It is obviously written with passion and is quite eloquent, but there is no structure to it (and don't try telling me this is intentional!). I spent half the time waiting for it to start, then realising it wasn't going to, I just ploughed through to the the very out of place "ending" which consists of a rather strange account of saints and holy men.
"Love" being everything seems to be all the book talks of and the text just doesn't flow or engage the reader. As more recent 'nonduality' writers have come along (e.g. Tony Parsons - 'Open Secret', Jeff Foster - 'The Wonder of Being', etc.) Dass's style just doesn't match the clarity and resonance of these authors. I wouldn't say the message of this book is 'wrong' - but it is open to misunderstanding, and in a work of this length love is not all you need! Would this book have found a publisher if it wasn't by Ram Dass? - probably not - however it gets 2 stars for sincerity, and because I like a book with pictures, and because I am also an aging hippy!
