This book was given to my son for his birthday at the start of December and every night since without fail we have had to read it twice if not three times. This book is just the right length to hold a two year olds attention and the message the book gives is one a child can understand easily.
"Be Gentle" is a delightful story which could have quite easily have be written with my own son in mind. It gives off the "I know best" attitude in the young bear and the "please listen to what i'm saying" aspect from the adult bear!..............a wonderful book I could happily read over and over again.

The whole family are big fans of the George & Bartholomew books and Be Gentle is the best of the series. Ba is a toddler bear with only one word in his vocabulary: 'Nah!'; George is his tolerant and patient father. All the books are simple life lessons dressed up as stories, this one deals with pet care, but they are well illustrated and fun while avoiding being too preachy.
Very good for children up to 2 or 3.

This book is perfect if you have an over enthusiastic 2 year old, and cats. This book uses repetition of the phrase "be gentle" and images of cute bartholomew the bear being a bit boisterous with his new kitten. The kitten runs away as a result. My son understood this clearly from the pictures and now if i think he is stroking our cats a bit hard all i have to say is "be gentle" and he remembers the story!! At the moment Tyler (my son) asks for this book everynight! A must for a home with pets and children!
