'Be a Drummer Book.1' is the official drum kit syllabus used by STICK-AT- IT tutors in junior schools right across Cornwall. However you don't have to be having lessons with us to benefit from the great exercises and catchy songs crammed into this book.
Each page has a drumstick practice record. Children are encouraged to colour in a section of the drumstick to indicate every 10 minutes of practice they do. Tutors or parents can then total up the minutes of practice on completion of the book and fill in the certificate accordingly.
Book.1 takes beginners through the basics including holding the sticks correctly, simple rudiments as well as rock beats and drum fills. We also look at note values and rests and make them easy to learn with our cut out 'flash cards'.
Kids will have great fun learning the drums with 'Be a Drummer Book.1' and at the same time gain a basic understanding of music theory, develop hand eye co-ordination and get to grips with timekeeping and listening skills with our play along songs!
Practicing the drums shouldn't be a chore, so have fun from lesson one.

I bought this book for my nephew who has recently started drum lessons after getting a beginner kit for his birthday. This book has really engaged him and given him realistic and achievable targets in a format that is exciting. I would say that this would suit children from about 6 years old up to about age 10 and is really good value - the CD is included for him to play along to. Definitely one to get!
