If you like a Coming Of Age book, or you enjoyed "Summer of Nights" by Dan Simmons or "The Body" by Stephen King, you'll love this too.
I was very surprised that this is a debut novel- it is written with such flair that I can't wait to try something else from Mr. Lorn. In fact, it has a real Stephen King feel about it- a group of kids growing up in rural America and discovering that the world can be a pretty mean place. The author is one of those rare people who have never forgotten what it was like to be a youngster growing up, and he has the even rarer talent of putting it down on paper with an expert hand.
The 2 main protagonists, Trey and Eddy, find themselves incurring the wrath of the vengeful and unstable local sheriff following an innocent prank, and suddenly their lives take a frightening turn that will affect them for the rest of their lives.
It might be something of an old cliche, but I literally couldn't put this book down. The characters were expertly and touchingly written, and the whole atmosphere of the book was addictive. It is a book I can only dream of writing!
