The witch is back

The witching hour strikes again. Brimming with intricate battles that take place in, on, and all over epic set pieces, Bayonetta 2 finds our sassy heroine battling angels and demons in unearthly beautiful HD. You're bound to love how it feels to string together combos with unimaginable weapons and summon demons using Bayonetta's Umbran Weave in this frantic stylised action game. Bayonetta 2 is a Nintendo Wii U exclusive.

Key features:

  • Initiate the new Umbran Climax technique to temporarily summon demons and boost Bayonetta's attack range whenever you fill her magic gauge.
  • Fight with new over-the-top weapons that open new possibilities to the way you battle, including the Kafka, a bow that shoots poisonous arrows; the Rakshasa, a pair of beautiful katana blades; and a giant rifle-inspired scythe known as the Chernobog.
  • Team up with a friend in Tag Climax, a two-player online co-op mode.
  • In online quick matches, you can wager halos, the in-game currency that you earn by defeating enemies. You receive a large sum back if you can prove you're a better fighter than your partner. Halos can then be traded in a story mode shop to unlock new techniques, buy accessories, and pick up alternate weapon variations.
  • Every chapter ends with a medal ranking: Stone, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, or Pure Platinum. The more skilled you are, the higher your ranking.
  • This game is approachable for players of all levels, with settings of three difficulty levels. Through Touch Play, you can play with the GamePad's stylus and touchscreen, regardless of which difficulty you choose.

5.0 out of 5 stars Masterpiece and reason to buy a Wii U 25 Oct. 2014
By Ibraar 'Le Saracen' TOP 500 REVIEWER
Edition:Standard Edition|Verified Purchase
I read about the development of this game, and after seeing various videos I decided to pre Order, and boy was it worth it.
This game is unlike most Wii U exclusive titles, in that it is very mature in content. It is a real Mature Hardcore gamers game, featuring profanity and nudity, but don't let that get in the way as it is but part of the style and substance of this amazing game.

The graphics are true next Gen, mind blowing, huge, and stunning in the way they are executed at a fast unstuttering frame rate.

The game it self is vast in it's versatility and content and longevity, brilliant, fast, violent, and dizzing!
Played on a large screen with full blown surround sound and sub it is an experience to behold.

All in all, if you like your action games slick, stylistic, blindingly fast and oh so playable and enjoyable with stunning graphics, music, soundtrack and feel then go for this.

A reason to buy a Wii U, and a masterpiece!

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Words cannot describe how amazing Bayonetta 2 is because you have to play it to see what all the excitement is about and when you get to play it, damn, it's one hectic addictive awesome experience that you just won't want to let it go until you feel it's enough.

Okay, so here's my review broken up into various parts:

Story:

1) You're essentially going to save Jeanne and bring her back, so 98% of the time it's you (Bayonetta/Cereza) with the Little One (Loki/Aesir), Luka and Rodin along the way.

2) After you're done with the Story Mode you then have the Lost Chapters which consist of five chapters, this being, the Witch Trials are wave of enemies you have to defeat per each chapter without any plot whatsoever.

Graphics:

They look absolutely impressive and I just kept getting wowed with the in-game cutscenes because they look so gorgeous that I couldn't believe it was from a Wii U game, then again it just goes to show that the Wii U is graphically capable of showing beautiful visuals. Although, the "book-cutscenes" (or time-cutscenes) those aren't very good, it looks low budget and it beats me as to why they just didn't make in-game cutscenes since they'd be completely superior without a doubt!

Gameplay:

Did you enjoy Wonderful 101's gameplay? Well, if so then it's pretty much identical BUT improved and it feels like it could have been a fighting game of its own given that you can customise Cereza during the Story Mode but on the Tag Climax (Online Mode you play against bosses either with CPU or an online player) you can use different costumes and characters.

5.0 out of 5 stars Holy cow! 11 Nov. 2014

Incredible action game and an incredible value. There are dozens of hours of play here if you are interested even slightly in discovering what the game has to offer.

This game is fast, thrilling, and ridiculous. It is 80% fighting crazy monsters in crazy places, and 20% looking for treasure. Once you're done with the treasure, it's 100% fighting crazy monsters, which is why it's so freaking great, because doing so just gets better the more you do it.

With Bayonetta, the first playthrough is just a warm up. You've barely had time to check out more than a couple of weapons, and many game-altering accessories still have to be acquired (it isn't until your second playthrough that you have the chance to unlock a blocking mechanism, which of course changes all your tactics!)

It's definitely a gamer's game - they've made a casual mode for beginners, but that reduces the game to pure spectacle. THe game's systems are designed to be exploited by dedicated players, and doing so will offer sights, sounds and sensations unavailable in any other game.

The odd thing is, the game is definitely easier than Bayonetta 1. I went back to it after playing the sequel, and found it way more unforgiving - the input timings had to be more precise, mistakes were penalised harshly, and it's overall just a harsher game to get your head around, despite it's brilliance. Bayo 2 is way more approachable in this regard.

A big change is that enemy hits no longer deplete your magic meter, which in the original meant you had to keep your distance, as even one hit in normal mode could suck all your special move juice away.

Leagues better than the first bayonetta in every respect, the action is non stop and graphics are stunning. Loads to unlock and keeps you revisiting stages to grab things you missed. A must for any action fan!

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun, but in the end disappointing. 22 Jan. 2015
By J. C.
Edition:Standard Edition|Verified Purchase
I bought Bayonetta based off of all the glowing reviews. I have never played the first game, or any other similar game in this genre before so was going into it with an open mind. In the end, it left me feeling unsatisfied as a whole experience.

Pros:
The game is incredibly fun to play. Non stop action and fighting absolutely bonkers enemies.
It looks great on the WII U.
Easy to pick up and play.

Cons:
The voice acting is really, really annoying and poorly done throughout.
The cutscenes (and there are many) feel flat out dated. Static images with voice acting over it.
Combat - it's supposed to be based around complex strings of combos. I've almost completed the game and haven't purposely done a single combo once. Think about that. You can play a game for hours and completely ignore the core mechanic with no ill effect. This just tells me that the combat is broken.
Music - never before have I played a game with more annoying music. I imagine it appeals to a certain audience, but I couldn't stand it and had to mute it all in the end.

Considering the WII U's limited number of games at this time, I definitely recommend picking up a copy of Bayonetta 2 if you have extra cash, but can only do so with the warning that the experience may not be for everyone.
