I guess when many people are buying a TV or other large electrical goods one thing you look for is if it has a big brand name attached to it which are seen as (at least partial) guarantors of quality and to be honest I do too. So I suppose if a TV like this is to sell units it has to appeal to people using something other than that brand name and normally companies do this by dropping the price which then only serves to further justify people's inital impressions that the product is somehow of a lesser quality than its branded counterpart. Instead Bauer have decided to give this a similar price to other 22-inch TVs but give it more functions which is something I really appreciate!
I chose this TV over others because of its promise that you were able to quickly and easily record products onto a USB flash drive as well as pausing/rewinding/f-forwarding live TV. Now I imagine that for those with Sky Plus or Freeview Plus this isn't a big deal but to me without either of those products I am delighted to now be able to do this and without any extra cost associated (other than of course the flash drive if you don't already have one). The flash drive has to be minimum 4GB to work with the TV and I should warn you, as it's something I didn't find particularly clear in the instruction manual, if you choose to format the drive which you need to do to be able to use it it will wipe clean your USB so make sure you have anything important backed up. The USB feature also allows you to watch films you've got on your computer and view images or listen to music.
In addition to this the TV has a HDMI cable enabling me to use my games console in HD for the first time and a built in DVD player. This is a very handy little feature which has meant that I can get rid of my rather large and ugly DVD player with all its accompanying wires. Finally Freeview is built in and I have found that I can get a slightly better signal on this than I could using a set top box through my previous TV.
The inital set up is very easy and it sorts itself out in no time at all. On top of all the great features this TV also looks really smart. There is no brand name on the front giving it the look of a large computer monitor and there a touch sensitive buttons to operate the basic functions on the front of the TV.
My only minor niggles are the following: 1) When the TV loses signal on digital TV it makes a rather odd squeaking noise which is moderately irritating, but this doesn't happen often so don't be put off and obviously if you live in a very strong signal area or are using this with a main rooftop area you will probably never encounter this problem. 2) There is only one scart socket (as well as three separate pins for a scart plug). However this again is not a particular problem for me, as I used to use scart leads for a set-top box (which I don't need any more), a DVD player (which I don't need any more) and my Xbox 360 (which I can now use a HDMI cable for) so I actually have found that I'm not using the scart socket at all any more.
Overall I would therefore highly recommend this product and it really does do more than other TVs at about the same price.
