Product Description

Unlike some other territories which are releasing Battlestar Galactica as “Season 4.0” and “Season 4.5”, the UK are following Sky1’s broadcast transmission, whereby the first 10 episodes are “Season 4” with the remainder next year as “The Final Season,” a sneak peek of which is featured on the Season 4 DVD release.

Synopsis

Battlestar Galactica balances its striking special effects with character-driven drama and social commentary to create a show that's both entertaining and relevant. This critical favourite re-imagines the cult series from the 1970s with a new cast and more impressive villains. It also eschews the sunny outlook of Star Trek in favor of a darker vision of space and humanity as it comments on issues such as terrorism and civil liberties. Androids called Cylons have massacred billions of people, leaving only a small group of survivors. Led by Oscar nominees Edward James Olmos and Mary McDonnell, the human fleet searches for a mythical planet called Earth as they evade the Cylons. Features the first four series of the show, which includes the Battlestar Galactica mini-series and the extended episode 'Razor.'

Great series, but who in their right mind is gonna buy this boxset? If you want to invest in the complete series box set then wait a few months when you'll get the COMPLETE series, including the full season 4 (23 episodes) and the forthcoming TV movie.

Word of warning to any new viewers expecting the complete series, this set contains only the episodes made up to now, another ten FINAL episodes will air early 2009 to round off the series in full.
Despite this, a well made, gritty, dark reinvention of the classic series from the 70's.

This product includes the miniseries, the entire 2004 series (1-4 sesons) and deleted scenes. The three hours miniseries is simply excellent, however the same cannot be said for the first two seasons. The 20 episodes (I don't see why though, that's too many for one BSG season) 2nd season suffers some filler episodes but if you're patient enough, you'll absolutely bathe and indulge in the pure science fiction, overwhelming drama, philosophy and more in the 3rd and the 4th seasons. You'll have a lot to discuss with your friends after you finish the entire series.

The DVDs come in a small box, It may be hard to take a DVD out and put the next one in because you have to take them out of that small box each time, and check if you've taken the correct one. This is a minor problem but it can be annoying sometimes if you can't help watching more and more and complete the whole series in a very short time (I completed in about six days).

Recommended to all who'd love the combination of real science fiction and strong drama. The price is also excellent.

Amazon really should not insult their customers intelligence by advertising this as a 'Complete' set of Seasons 1-4, given that anyone with any interest in this superb show will know it still has over half a season to go and the remaining episodes won't be shown on TV until next year!

Buy the recently released Season 4 Part 1 set instead....

Please be advise that this is not the complete pack.

Second part of season 4 will only be aired next year.

This is plain and simply false advertising, and Amazon should pull this article from their store.

It's the 'frequently bought together' match that is most misleading. Amazon have added a description (probably after everyone's comments) stating that this release follows Sky One's labelling of the 2008 episodes as 'Season Four' and the 2009 episodes as 'The Final Season' (weird because the product is not branded as a Sky One release). Watch out for that match up, though because Amazon are encouraging customers to buy this boxset along with 'Razor', which is INCLUDED IN THE BOXSET.

Everyone else has said it, yes this is only season 1 to the mid-season break of season 4 (including the Miniseries that kicked the whole show off and the Razor TV movie)... and yes, if you buy this you'll still need to buy another disc-set to have the whole series.

If not having every disc in one big box bugs you or you just plain need to take up more shelf space in your home in some kind of misplaced self validation, DON'T BUY IT. If, on the other hand, you just want to watch what is essentially the pinnacle of genre TV at a stunningly knock-down decent price - BUY IT, WATCH IT, LOVE IT!

That is all.

I couldn't resist. I read the reviews. I knew this was incomplete. I knew I was a mug. But I bought this anyway. Here's why. Look at the price of this boxset and add the cost of the "Final series" (i.e. Series 4 - Part 2). Now see how much it will cost you to buy the complete BSG when it finally comes out in September. Compare the two numbers and ask yourself how much the extras, and the undeniably funky looking packaging, are worth to you...

This is an ugly and basic boxset though (hence 4 stars). The 20 disks are packaged in ten strictly sequential slimline cases which means, for example that you get disk four of series one and disk one of series two in the same case. Not cool. The box itself is a bit of a pain so to get a particular disk you have to tip all the cases out and go through them (all of the cases are identical so there's no convenient colour coding to speed things up). FYI the key extras are the pilot miniseries, Razor and the minisodes. There are also a few deleted scenes, commentaries and a preview of the "Final series". Subtitles are English only.

But, don't lose sight of the fact that this is extraordinary TV. It may be sci-fi but its strength is that it is ultimately about relationships and what it means to be human. But now I'm repeating what you will have read in dozens of other reviews. So, if price matters and want to get this fabulous series now AND you're not bothered about packaging or having the last episodes in a different box then this is for you. If not I guess you're waiting until September...
