It's not until you play this soundtrack that you realise how much of the Battlestar universe is intertwined with the excellent music of Bear McCreary. Having worked with Richard Gibbs on the music for the mini series, Bear treats us to over 70 minutes of music from season 1 of the show.

This CD comprises the bulk of the music from the first season and covers the essential elements that make up the core of the show.

Using a variety of instruments from many countries, McCreary once again delivers an orchestral soundstage that you'd only usually get in movies.

There are some subtle pointers in some tracks that are fleshed out into great examples of leit motif for certain characters and they are expanded upon on the season 2 soundtrack.

The music is moving (Passacaglia - my favourite), dramatic (Battle On The Asteroid), humourous (The Dinner Party) and haunting (Bloodshed).

There is also both versions of the opening theme, the US version and the UK version. The US version is a more military style and was used in the flashback sequences from Act Of Contrition but the UK version sounds much better and in feeling with the show giving a more dramatic impact to the listener.

All in all any fan of Battlestar Galactica, new or old, should own this soundtrack and for those out there who just like excellent music then it's a safe bet that you'll like this CD!

It's an absolutely MUST for any BSG fan, and it's also a very pleasant surprise for those who love scores. Both UK and US opening themes are included (and that's really good), and 70 minutoes of great and ecclectic music.

THE SHAPE OF THINGS TO COME is great and there are lots of great themes of all the episodes.

Bear MacCreary goes far beydond the premise of the miniseries and he surprises us with all-new themes

This soundtrack is amazing. The music is nothing like your bog standard sci-fi soundtrack with their big brass sections and triumphant themes. the composer Bear Mcreary uses percussion instruments exceptionally well. he also uses alot of ethnic instruments, irish instruments and haunting vocals to create a beautiful fusion of different cultures. it also prvides insight into the world with translations to some of the vocals. In short buy even if you're just a fan of good music.
