Book Description

24 April 2009 1848561113 978-1848561113
"Battlestar Galactica" the 're-imagined' version of the cult 1970s series and now in its fourth and final season is without doubt the most critically acclaimed SF show on TV. With a classy ensemble cast, including Edward James Olmos ("Miami Vice") and Mary McDonnell ("Independence Day"), cutting edge special effects, superb production design and adult-oriented scripts, the new "Battlestar Galactica" is both a worthy successor to a classic original, and a stunning piece of television in its own right. This official full-colour companion to the first and second seasons is packed with exclusive interviews, stunning photos, behind-the-scenes secrets, and a complete episode guide with in-depth commentary from both cast and crew.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great companion book for a great series 11 Jun 2009
By Zafkiel
Format:Paperback
This guide covers the first two seasons of the new Battlestar Galactica TV series with quite interesting insights from the authors, actors and members of the production team. It is quite in-depth and is like the TV show itself one of the best in recent TV history. The author was given much access to the creative process of the show which really pays off when reading this entertaining guide.

It should be mentioned that this book more or less completely combines two former books of David Bassom: Battlestar Galactica: The Official Companion and Battlestar Galactica: Season 2: The Official Companion (Battlestar Galactica the Official Companion), however in gorgeous full-color reproduction (which alone might justify a purchase, even if you have the first two books) and differently structured. The offered information, interviews etc. is the same. The product information is in my opinion not quite clear on this; I actually thought this might be an additional reference book with new information to the first two companions when ordering this. But as an avid fan I am not that disappointed given the great presentation offered for good price.

Fully commendable for everone who has seen the series!

4.0 out of 5 stars companion for season 1, 2 and the miniseries 21 Jun 2011
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Downloaded is a well presented companion for the first two seasons of the re imagined BSG and the 2003 miniseries. The book is in full colour and on good quality paperstock with a nice selection of photo's throughout.
The only slight negatives are the lack of behind the scenes photo's and illustrations especially regarding the genesis of the miniseries.
A nice companion piece, but not an essential purchase.

Just to add a little further context etc to previous reviews, if you're a fan of the Battlestar Galactica universe as reimagined by Ronald D. Moore, then this is a no-brainer of a purchase. However as previously mentioned, this is nothing more than a graphically updated edition of the first two books Bassom wrote on BSG but on better paper stock and in colour.

Whilst I certainly have no qualms about adding it to my collection regardless of essentially having the same thing twice, my only real disapointment is that it is incomplete. As this was released in 2009 (and if memory serves me correctly POST-finale) then it would have been truly appreciated by most if not all fans of the show to have everything collated into one volume. A good example of how this can be done is the wonderful 'Lost Encylopedia' - a true treasure trove of trivia for fans of the show.

I would have given this 3 stars if it hadn't been for the fact that it had been for the quality upgrade. Much deserved - just a shame there could have been so much more.

Incomplete, but hardly essential if you have the previous seperate volumes.

For diehard fans only.

5.0 out of 5 stars companion for miniseries, seasons one and two 12 Mar 2010
By Susan Belcher TOP 50 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
This is the companion for the mini series, and first and second seasons of the new Battlestar Galactica series.

Unfortunately, it contains virtually identical information and pictures that are in the separate companions for season one and season two - the main difference being that the "downloaded" companion is in full colour and on glossy paper (the other two companions for the miniseries in season one, and season two being printed on porous paper and only in black-and-white). A few of the interviews have the odd word or two added, but are predominantly the same.

One word of warning, do not read any of the companions until after you've watched the (related) season. All the books contain significantly high number of spoilers. They are, however, a great addition to the series; and a wonderful reminder of what has happened and in which episode - a great advantage when you're trying to find a particular episode to re-watch but can't quite remember which one it was.

If you want a companion that is in full colour and covers the miniseries, season one and season two that I recommend this book to you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cracking tie in. 25 Jun 2009
By Gareth Wilson - Falcata Times Blog TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback
If you've been a fan of the series and currently mourning its loss, you can get your fix by picking up this enjoyable book that explores the world of Adama, Starbuck and the crew in their embattled universe as they seek to find a new home. Not only is this stuffed full of concept artwork for the battleships along with information about the filming of the series but it also deals with the details of the individual series and how it went from part mini series to the full blown epic it was to become. A great offering with plenty of graphic and photographic illustrations to keep even the most ardent fan glued for hours. A great offering from Titan.
