From Amazon.co.uk

Surely in the running to be the best television series of the past decade, the stunning revival of Battlestar Galactica is perhaps only nudged out of first place by The Wire. But it’s a tight-run race, and across the four seasons in this collected box set, there’s some of the best science fiction television of all time.

Sadly, the fact that it’s a science fiction show on the exterior is likely to put some off Battlestar Galactica. It really shouldn’t. The writers superbly weave in politics, religion, action, and excellent character work, bringing together an outstanding company of actors. Edwards James Olmos and Mary McDonnell are the stand-outs, but there are so many performances of note, it’s hard to highlight too many more. It goes without saying, of course, that the majority of science fiction enthusiasts will be blown away by many of the collected episodes here.

And, bluntly, it’s a real treat to watch them in high definition. While perhaps the earlier episodes of Battlestar Galactica don’t look quite as striking as the later instalments, this is still a show with high production values that gleam in high definition. Cinematically shot and engrossing right through to its challenging ending, Battlestar Galactica is quality television, and it’s never looked better than it does on Blu-ray. --Jon Foster

As some of you may or may not know; there is so much Battlestar Galactica related content out there in the form of spin-off series, additional minisodes, TV movies and other secondary content. When I was trying to purchase the Battlestar Galactica: The Complete Series [Blu-ray] for myself I was having trouble actually finding out what this box set contains, especially since Amazon combines reviews of both DVDs and Blu-Rays; the former supposedly not including alot of that secondary content and the latter supposedly including all of it. As well as various people saying this and that and other people saying the oppposite of this and that, I was getting rather confused. I never actually found out for sure what this box-set included so I caved and just bought it for myself regardless.

The sole purpose of my review is to have one dedicated space in outlining what this box set actually does and does not contain!

The Battlestar Galactica: The Complete Series [Blu-ray] CONTAINS:

- Battlestar Galactica (2003) (TV-Mini-Series)
- Battlestar Galactica (2004-2009) (the Main TV Series, All Seasons [1,2,3,4 and The Final Season]
- ALL unaired extended episodes of specific episodes from the Main TV series (as well as the original broadcast versions)
- RAZOR (TV Movie) (BOTH the original broadcast version and the unrated extended version)
- Razor Flashbacks (Minisodes x7)
- The Resistance (Webisdoes x9)
- I won't list the special features as they are on the Amazon product page, but I will add that there are also audio commentaries for each extended episode!

After a few years of trying to decide which Battlestar collection to buy, I bought this one when it came up at a good price. There are several collections out there but none are perfect.Read more ›

I read some other reviews here and noticed that some are complaining about this collection not including some other ancillary Battlestar releases. To clarify, this is the release of the complete Mini Series. Why would you expect it to include other BG related titles???? I went through two versions of this in The States, and ended up selling both of them. This version from the UK is the best collection of Battlestar I've yet seen. First of all the box is very sturdy, and cleverly designed with the recessed photo wrap around. I also love that the discs are in proper blu ray cases, not some of the flimsy options released in the US. The discs themselves seem to be identical to the ones I've seen before. However, the feature that I loved most was the inclusion of a very nice booklet detailing the contents of each disc. There are also some interesting character bios included in the booklet. I can't for the life of me understand why none of the US versions have included a decent booklet. This box set looks so beautiful that I chose to prominently display it in my living room. Oh yeah..... I forgot to mention that the blu rays are REGION FREE, which means they play perfectly on US blu ray players.

A nice box set, but really should have also contained "The Plan" for it to be complete. It does however, include the Razor movie, and that is a definite bonus. There is also a booklet contained within the boxset that potentially contains spoilers in terms of revealing who some of the Cylon's may be, so for those buying this boxset with the intention of viewing it for the first time, or for watching it with others that haven't seen it, then don't read the booklet.

As regards the disks themselves, they are not going to blow you out of the water with the quality of their blu-ray definition, because of the way some of the footage was originally filmed to give it a a slightly grainy, "embedded reporter" type feeling to it. Indeed if you already have the DVD's of BSG, then I wouldn't bother investing in this box set, as you will gain no significant picture improvements.

The additional content, some unedited episodes and commentaries available in the set are nice to have, but I am sure that many people will just be buying this box set to have BSG in all its glory, in as few disks as possible.

In short, buy this if you don't already have the DVD's and you don't mind having to buy 'The Plan', separately.
