Surely in the running to be the best television series of the past decade, the stunning revival of Battlestar Galactica is perhaps only nudged out of first place by The Wire. But it’s a tight-run race, and across the four seasons in this collected box set, there’s some of the best science fiction television of all time.
Sadly, the fact that it’s a science fiction show on the exterior is likely to put some off Battlestar Galactica. It really shouldn’t. The writers superbly weave in politics, religion, action, and excellent character work, bringing together an outstanding company of actors. Edwards James Olmos and Mary McDonnell are the stand-outs, but there are so many performances of note, it’s hard to highlight too many more. It goes without saying, of course, that the majority of science fiction enthusiasts will be blown away by many of the collected episodes here.
And, bluntly, it’s a real treat to watch them in high definition. While perhaps the earlier episodes of Battlestar Galactica don’t look quite as striking as the later instalments, this is still a show with high production values that gleam in high definition. Cinematically shot and engrossing right through to its challenging ending, Battlestar Galactica is quality television, and it’s never looked better than it does on Blu-ray. --Jon Foster

This is a great box set!,

There have been several Battlestar Galactica (BSG) blu-ray and dvd releases and this is by far the best packaging based on the price. It's well put together, enough effort has been made with the box and packaging that it looks great and stands proudly on the shelf. Playback, the company that releases BSG in the UK have taken much critisim over the years for their BSG box sets, in the UK and North America. However having researched this extensively and waited patiently to buy BSG, I have been very impressed by this box set and consider it well worth the price here.The content included is all the great episodes in great HD video quality and sound. Despite other reviews on this page ALL the extras are here, on the BLU RAY anyway, don't know about the DVD. That means: Extended episodes of Pegasus, Razor, Unfinished Business etc are included along with the original broadcast shorter versions. Plus webisodes, commentaries, video diaries. Confusion has come because there have been many editions of the complete BSG which did not have all the extras actually made for the show, but this one has EVERYTHING!

I was a fan of the original Battlestar as a child and I was anticipating the new series for a while. I was not disapointed and loved the remake when i saw it on Sky. I brought the special edition in tin and i was pleased with the packaging and compactness of the item. The series itself is full of outstanding acting, clever scripting with few flaws and cutting edge special efects. The ending is satisfying with very few enigmatic loose ends. The blu-ray conversion is slick and is most satisfying on my 1080p big screen TV. This is sci-fi at its best and will be enjoyed by almost everyone- battlestar fan or not. For afficionados of the original, this does the old 80's series justice and moves the franchise on to a new level. It is the pride in my blu-ray collection and will take some beating- buy it without hesitation!

Disappointed in the lack of Special Features,

Received my box set in the post today and was very disappointed with the lack of Special Features. Gone are the extended episodes, Webisodes, the majority of the Commentary tracks are missing and no extended version of the movie Razor. All of these are contained on the American version of the complete series (except the Season 4 Webisodes which are missing from both versions) and the Blueray editions.
It is a big shame that for the same price the UK version is missing the majority of the features especially as a good number of them were even advertised as being contained within this box set. This is a very good TV show and I will recommend it, I just can't recommend this box set as it is incomplete.
