5.0 out of 5 stars Great Addon To The Best Online FPS, 21 Oct 2006
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Battlefield 2: Special Forces (PC DVD) (Video Game)
This expansion pack adds lots of extras and gameplay oppurtunities when playing with your mates. The extras obviously add special forces componants to your arsenal with a variety of new maps and much more.

New weapons consist of zip lines, grappling hooks, tear gas and more and vehicles include desert raiders, ATVs and even jet skis. Also new special forces teams are added that include the SAS, Navy SEALS and even rebels and insurgents.

This new tactical gameplay also opens up new ways to kill enemies and reach objectives. Use night vision goggles to see your enemies in dark passagewayd or zipline from a cliff down to your next objective without the enemy haveing a clue that your there.

Pros

+ New and deadly tools for stealth
+ New vehicles
+ Quiet night attacks
+ New gameplay opurtunities
+ The elite teams of the world included

Cons

- Still no good single player

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Game Nasty Error, 3 Sep 2006
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Battlefield 2: Special Forces (PC DVD) (Video Game)
Already bieng a massive fan of the original BF2 i bought this , its a great add on to the game features new maps, vechiles and weapons , after youve installed the game you also get 3 new unlocks in original bf2.

However upon installing i came across a problem which ive found out is not uncommon , after installing i was presented with an error message which told me fies from the 'shaders' folder were missing. To get around this problem you have to reinstall the latest patch for BF2 at the present time which for me was v1.3 , so as you can guess i wasnt too happy with having to re-download a near 500mb file.

So it was alls well and ends well but it had to be the long way.

3.0 out of 5 stars Extra Maps and some new features, 24 May 2006
By
Simon Bazley "sibaz" (Thames Valley, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Battlefield 2: Special Forces (PC DVD) (Video Game)
Special Forces is essentially a new set of maps for the basic BF2, with a couple of extra features. The original BF2 maps are quite limited, and the new maps do bring a welcome challenge.
The new features are interesting, but not essential. Some specialists have flash bangs, some tear gas, some a climbing rope and claw and some a death slide (zip slide). All specialists now have a gas mask and night vision goggles.
All sounds great, but the night effects vary drastically depending on your graphics card quality. To such an extent that you'll be lucky to find a multiplayer server with night maps. The problem, with a poor graphics card, night is as bright as day, so it's completely unfair.
On the plus side though, the Multiplayer maps supporting BF2:SF tend to be more challenging, and really require more teamwork. Whats more my experience is that those players with SF, tend to be more serious, prepared to really engage with people they don't know and hence it's generally more fun.
Specifically there is a map where the intention is to invade and capture a US Carrier. The map is mostly indoors, in hanger bays, engine rooms, it feels more like FIBUA that anything in the original game. Its annoying until you learn the map, but really rewarding once you have.
