1.0 out of 5 stars Game based story is weak 15 Jun. 2014

This story is based on the MechWarrior 3 computer game. While the story there was adequate for a mech simulator, it is severely lacking in a real novel. Recommend you pass.
4.0 out of 5 stars Good story 17 Aug. 2013

While I have read all off Colemen's BattleTech and MechWarrior books. He is a great author. I would give most of his other works five stars.
However Trial By Fire is his weakest work. It did not pull me in like his other works. Lots of action, though . Lots of Mech action.
2.0 out of 5 stars This is From a Premier BattleTech Writer? 6 July 2013

I have read Loren Coleman fiction on several occasions. This was by far the worst of a decidedly mediocre lot. Oh, the story itself is engaging enough but the writing itself is inferior and there seems to have been no editing or even proofreading at all.
5.0 out of 5 stars Mechwarrior 3 6 Nov. 2012

I loved this book! If you ever had a chance to play the mechwarrior games when they came out on the computer, this one is game #3 word for word. Reading this book took me back to playing that game, and I truly do miss it. Follow the destruction of Clan Smoke Jaguar on the planet Tranquil.

2.0 out of 5 stars It's ok 28 April 2012

If you have played MechWarrior 3 then there is no reason for you to read this book. The story follows the game step by step. I like this Author but this is not one of their best.
