Product Description

Since their appearance in the Inner Sphere in 3005, the mercenary regiments known as Wolf’s Dragoons have proven themselves the masters of the battlefield, the equal of any regiment of any of the five warring Successor States.

Now under contract to House Marik’s Free Worlds League, the Dragoons have undertaken their most daring mission yet: an attack on House Steiner’s impregnable Hesperus II BattleMech factories. Success on Hesperus will make the Dragoons into living legends… but few enemies have survived House Steiner’s fanatical defenses. The Steiners know how important the ancient BattleMech factories are to their nation—and not even the fearsome reputation of Wolf’s Dragoons will make them blink.

Jason Schmetzer is the author of more than 40 published short stories and novellas, as well as four BattleTech sourcebooks and a novel. 5.0 out of 5 stars Best of the Ebook Fiction so far 15 May 2012
By Scipio - Published on Amazon.com

Hector is about the Wolf's Dragoons assault on Hesperus II, in 3019, while under contract for House Marik. The novel has by far the most action of any of the new series of ebooks published and a distinct 3025 combat feel. Famous Dragoons like Jamie Wolf and Natasha Kerensky make an appearance. It's refreshing to see some familiar faces in the universe again.

As others have said, the book is a bit rushed at the end, but I can forgive this since it has been quite some time since any battletech fiction has been published and these ebooks are not supposed to be full feature length novels.

5.0 out of 5 stars Battletech fiction is finally back!! 30 April 2012

This is the best story to be released in the BT universe in a long time. It is definitely the best of the "Blitzkrieg" books released so far. If you like plenty of mech combat then this book is for you. There is a lot of combat and fast paced action. Additionally, the book is about the Wolf's Dragoons - finally a story about a BT unit that I actually care about. It is good to have them back after all of the weak, boring, wannabe Dark Age units.

The story is about the Dragoon assault of Hesperus II while in the employ of House Marik. As the other reviewer mentioned, it is very rushed at the end. However, I overlooked this because my understanding is that BT books are only allowed to be a certain number of pages because of some licensing rights. So the novel is truncated at the end, but I think this is to be expected unless the stories are written in pieces, similar to the Ice Hellion book.

I thought this was great and hope to see more novels like this about interesting units from interesting time periods in BT

3.0 out of 5 stars Has A 3025 Feel 24 April 2012
By The Wayfarer - Published on Amazon.com

"Hector" is a good enough read. Unlike the previous reviewer I thought the pacing of this novella was excellent. It has plenty of combat and stays interesting even though it strays a little towards the end. It is rather short on character development, however. This is okay for accessory characters but by the halfway mark I still didn't feel like I had a good grasp of the main character. I wanted to like him but really didn't.

The story is an interesting facet of Dragoon history and a refreshing change from history being written by the victor. Like some of the other Battletech novellas, this one suffers from spelling and grammatical errors. Hopefully this will be something that comes out in the wash.

Overall, if your a fan of Battletech, you will probably like this book.
4.0 out of 5 stars A good read 24 Mar 2014

FANS of the Dragoons will enjoy this story. IT did not hook me right away. But, during the (SPOILER AHEAD)
Attack on Hesperus II there was some tragedy and loss, this story got really good about half way through. BOOK is actually only 83% of story, with a sneak peek of "BattleTech:Eclipse" by this AUTHOR and glossary at the end.

Have no idea why it was called "Hector".
4.0 out of 5 stars Good book 28 Dec 2013

This is a good story and interesting reading. I think that it would have been better if a couple of the books had been combined. It seems his books read extremely fast. It's like they have made a book out of a couple of chapters of the story to sell more books.
