5.0 out of 5 stars Carry on Fighting 7 Nov 2011
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
Ha ha ha, brilliant! This is exactly how fan service should be done, tongue in cheek and very silly. The story is an updated version of the romance of the three kingdoms, only now it takes place in modern day Japan and the kingdoms have been replaced as schools. Basically all you need to know, however, is that this anime concentrates almost exclusively on the 'up skirt' or 'panty shot' when the fighting breaks out (and in-between fights too.... actually, all the time). You can tell the effectiveness of a punch/kick during one of the many battles by how much of the girls school uniform disintegrates, occasionally a single super powerful strike is able to rip a girl's clothes clean off in one go... Amazing!!! Anyone who is familiar with anime will know that it often contains young girls accidently flashing their pants, sometimes it's subtle, (most) other times it's gratuitous. This falls in the latter category, BUT, the big difference here is that it feels like it's mocking others in this genre with a humour of an old carry-on film. Watching, you can almost imagine which characters the old cast (Sid James, Barbara Windsor, Jim Dale etc.) would perfectly suit. The English dub is of decent quality, everyone sounds like they're having fun, especially the voice behind Hakufu (AKA Booby bombs), the protagonist, which is infectious and made me smile all through the series. The extras are also above average with alternate scenes and 'out takes' adding more fun to package, and at only 13 episodes it doesn't out stay it's welcome. Silly and lots of fun, Bring on series 2! Although I should point out that my friend Olly thought it was rubbish, so I really don't know who you should believe.

3.0 out of 5 stars Sexploitation, anime-style... 28 May 2007
Battle Vixens (aka Ikki Tousen), like many other animes these days, boasts an array of 2-dimensional supermodels kitted out in skimpy Japanese school uniforms. However, where most animes like to insert their scantly-clad heroines into some manner of a storyline, Battle Vixens concentrates mainly on its heroines and their clothing (well, the lack thereof).

In the first episode, a character hurriedly explains the premise; in which 7 secondary schools are constantly warring for control over the other six. Sounds like it could be good if done well, no? Perhaps. But quite frankly, BV doesn't care. This backdrop of conflicting schools is just to pave the way for an orgy of fights where the slighest punch can reduce a girl's outer clothing to tatters. It would seem that in the world of BV, a character's importance is determined by how little clothing they wear, so as you can imagine, males take a backseat in this one.

Almost from the outset, its clear to see Battle Vixens was devised with teenage boys in mind, and on that front, it delivers. If in search of an anime that mixes Japanese schoolgirls with decent plotlines, I would prescribe Sailor Moon. However, if you're wanting some senseless, sexy, animated fun (and yes, there are females out there who enjoy it too); pop Battle Vixens in the DVD player, sit back and enjoy the view.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great 23 April 2008
For me, this was a brilliant Anime

Although from the beginning you will notice its directed at teen male market with plenty of panty shots and girls shirts just been shredded off for no reason. But other than that it has a great storyline and a great cast of characters.

There is in total 13 episodes, which isnt that great for 40, but in my opinion it is a great quality anime and I enjoyed it from beginning to end and just hope the other series are released on DVD for us

5.0 out of 5 stars History repeated......Anime style 18 Jun 2014
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
This is a brilliant executed anime with great characters and a story to match.

The story is about a number of japanese high schools, whose students have come into possession of mystical stones, said to hold the soul of a great warrior, leader or strategist from chinese history (the three knigdoms era). It involves students fighting and beating the crap out of one another for glory. There is ALOT of fan service in this story for all you fans out there, aswell as action and romance. A must have for any Anime fan.
