Product Description

Combat action sequel to the 2000 film 'Battle Royale'. Three years on, in a dystopian near-future Japan, Shuya (Tatsuya Fujiwara), along with his co-survivor Noriko (Aki Maeda) and their anti-state alliance the Wild Seven, is intent on bringing down the goverment who put him and his classmates on an uninhabited island and ordered them to battle until all except one were dead. The government launches the 'Battle Royale 2' programme in retaliation, abducting a class of students on a skiing trip and telling them to capture and kill Shuya and the Wild Seven or face certain death.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the first but still great! 11 April 2011
Format:DVD
A great sequel with an updated BR Act.
Tatsuya Fujiwara's Shuya Nanahara is now the leader of a terrorist group called the Wild Seven, who are manly comprised of BR survivors and orphans who want to see the world changed.
A new group of 42 fifteen year old school kids (who are from a deliquent school this time) are forced to take part in the BR Act 2 which entails them having to go to a remote island where they must kill Shuya Nanahara in 72 hours.
We see new faces including the Kitaro's (Beat Takashi's) daughter Shiori trying deal with her father's death, Takuma a very angry young man who is the new groups main character and Riki Takeuchi the new groups teacher whose family was killed by a
Wild Seven terrorist attack (played by the great man child like actor who is always great by the same name 'Riki Takeuchi')
A brilliant film that is highly underrated, and the extended edition as a little bit extra.
Lets hope they release a Blu Ray edition of this film like they've done with the first one.

4.0 out of 5 stars A surprisingly impressive sequel 19 May 2008
By J. Snook VINE™ VOICE
Format:DVD
The first Battle Royale movie is an extremely popular cult classic Japanese movie. And at first glance this second installment may seem totally unnecesary and just a cash in from the success of the first film. However, this could not be more wrong.
I must admit that this movie begins similar to the first BR, with the kids being knocked out and being forced to participate in the game. However there is an interesting twist this time...
Shuya Nanahara, the male protagonist of the first film returns in this movie; and having survived his own BR ordeal, has grouped up with several other winners of the the game and has declared war against all 'grown ups'. So basically, the grown ups have decided to not respond to this in an orthodox manner. Instead sending 42 kids from a delinquet school to fight the war. As the teacher in this film says "if you like wars so much, then fight them amongst yourselves"...or something like that.So the new aim of the BR game is not to fight and kill each other, but to find and kill Shuya.
This plotline, in my opinion ultimateley proves that this is not just a cash in on the first movie because instead of re-hashing the same story again, they have Created something fresh that actually expands on the original film. So BR2 is technically a follow up to the first film.
This movie has a war like theme which I really like. There is plenty of action and gore in this film. As well as quite a lot of moving scenes. The main theme of this movie, as well as the first one, is friendship, which creates interesting characterisation.
This set contains 3 discs. The first being the original cut of the movie lasts for about 2 hours and 10 mins. The second being the extended version which runs for a whopping 3 hours.

2.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely idiotic 23 July 2012
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
For anybody who read BR (the book, worth reading) the movie was pretty good; some characters were changed a bit and some parts of the story were adapted to suit the screen, but in general, it was not a bad movie. Wouldn't get an academy award, but watchable.

An then they decided to make BRII, a follow-up...oh boy, what a mistake. I am not going to outline in detail the contents of the movie, see other reviews and description above. The movie plot is so full of holes that it is hard to know where to begin. The whole thing is illogical from the start (setup: a small island defended by a few kids fighting against the mighty Japanese military...em, how about you just bomb them to Mars?). We are then treated to an assault "attack" by our unlucky 40 heroes (1+1 didn't make it out of "training"), which is supposed to mirror Saving Private Ryan I guess, but it just looks brutally stupid. On the island, they are all picked off, until you have a few kids left and they suddenly all happily band together against the evil military. Em?

So now, the military attacks, and that was the most funny thing I ever saw: Some kid gets shot about 100 times but simply continues fighting; he himself shoots at soldiers and of course they all die after having been hit once. WTH? The military is too strong, of course, so the remaining two escape...wait for it...through a secret (well lit, spacious) tunnel to the mainland! Yeah! Just then to end up in Afghanistan somehow at the end suddenly?!?! Who comes up with this crap?

I am sure there is much more I could rant about, but that would force me to watch the movie again which I refuse. If this is a collectors item, then for the box which has a few extras, but not for the movie. Avoid BRII the movie, instead, buy BR the book if you haven't done so.

1.0 out of 5 stars Trying to cash in on the success of a great film. 18 April 2008
Format:DVD
I feel that I should start by saying that Battle Royale is one of my all time favourite films. However I found Battle Royale 2 to be a huge disappointment. The story (what there is of one) makes little to no sense at all, and is culminated by one of the stupidest (and most ridiculous) endings ever. In short: if you are consifdering watching this because you loved the 1st one then don't, you will only end up disappointed.
