3.0 out of 5 stars Crazy!, 5 Feb 2004
When two electricians, Hama and Furuichi, come across a Kotatsu (basically a heated coffee table used to keep drink and yourself warm) while scavenging, Furuichi takes it home to use for himself. Little do they know that its about to come alive and go bad! Pretty good. Amongst the possible victims within the apartment block are a wanna be punk band and in particular the lead singer Sabii, Hideko an adulterous and murdering women and an old couple who live downstairs. Also thrown into the mix is the main characters girlfriend in which Sabii try’s to seduce as she is about to inherit a record company.

All these characters are brilliantly played and offer some absurd and amusing dialogue in-between the b-movie special effects of the Kotatsu on the rampage. The first ten or twenty minutes are hilarious but after that the speed in which the laughs come slows notably.

As probably noted, the humour in this film is weird in places so it might be a required taste. If your looking for a slightly off centre comedy then this might just be for you.

The director of this film is Joji Idia who also directed the underrated “The Spiral” which is about as different a movie you can get from battle heater! Definitely worth watching.
