Product Description

The brutal war of extinction enters a horrifying new round as the cyborgs arrive from the Neptune System, in this, the third book of the series.

The Highborn are remorselessly crushing the obsolete Homo sapiens. Gambling with humanity’s existence, Supreme Commander James Hawthorne attempts to lure the dreaded Doom Stars into a trap. Social Unity’s combined Battlefleet is the bait. The cyborgs are Hawthorne’s secret weapon.

Unfortunately, for Marten Kluge, a vast space battle threatens to take place around Mars. And that is exactly where he and Omi need to go to refuel their stolen shuttle. To reach the Jupiter System, they will need more than luck and Marten’s stubbornness.

BATTLE POD is the story of long-range beams, stealth-capsules and survival of the fittest in a techno-battle hell. BATTLE POD is a full novel, 93,000 words in length by Vaughn Heppner, Writers of the Future winner.

Epic space opera 24 Feb 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I bought this book having read and enjoyed the previous two books in the series, Star Soldier and Bio-Weapon.

While there are a few to many grammatical and spelling errors, it did not detract from my enjoyment of this, and the other books in the series.

To give an extremely basic and brief summery of what is a well written and varied series of books, It tells several stories mainly centered around one central character and his fights to escape a police state, only to find himself fighting for a superior human race intent on ruling over the lesser humans of earth. Again, he escapes the clutches of both races only to be faced with the horror of a lethal cyborg race.
The characters are well developed and I found the many plots in the story to be gripping and interesting with several unexpected twists and turns.

The Doom star series is an epic space opera that should appeal to any science fiction who enjoys fiction about survival against all odds and space warfare. In order to get full enjoyment I highly recommend reading all three books and I very much hope Vaughn Heppner writes further books to complete the Doom Star Series.

I would equate these books with Chris Bunch's The Last Legion series and Simon R Green's Deathstalker books.

Vaughn is very good at creating characters that you care about and wish to follow.

His space battles are some of the best I have ever read.

It is clear that he is still gaining experience in his writing style. But he has a promising future.

I purchased the Star soldier book because it was cheap and I wanted something to test out the kindle android app. I quickly got into it and had finished all 3 books in a week and a half.

I look forward to the next book from this author.

Great read 29 Sep 2011

being dyslexic i was always told to read everyday, with a mind that never stops racing i find it hard to get drawn into sotrys, but this series of books sucked me in and i havent been able to stop reading. i only started book 1 a week ago and am already half way through book 4. this book is as well written as the gears of war books by karen traviss. it is obvious alot of thought and research has gone into the storys. And they all read like one huge book no side tracked story line for something new its all one huge universe. Would also make a good computer game for the level of detail.
