5.0 out of 5 stars At long last 19 May 2009
By Jim-Jim
Format:Paperback
At long last, an excellent book covering the bloodiest battle on Irish soil. McNally conveys the scope and ferocity of the battle in lucid prose, never indulging in sentiment and remaining objective in describing the pros and cons of the leaders on both sides. A remarkable battle with remarkable combatants, this is the definitive book of the battle.

4.0 out of 5 stars Battles in Ireland 4 April 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have read several books regarding the cival war campaign in Ireland, and also of the Williamite period. I was however fascinated to learn just how close the Irish army came to winning the Battle at Aughrim

The first book solely set on this battle in over 40 years, McNally vividly recreates the bloodiest battle ever fought in this country and an important decider in the outcome of the war. A fine addition to any Irish or military history bookshelf.
