Product Description

Product Description

This exciting new series of heritage tourist guides from Batsford gives an authentic flavour of the history of London and will appeal to all lovers of this wonderful city in both the local and tourist markets. Jack the Ripper's London recreates the creepy, oppressive atmosphere of London's East End in the brief period in the 1880s when a killer stalked the night. The identity of the murderer known as Jack the Ripper, who killed five (or more) women, has never been discovered, though thousands of theories have been postulated, some more outlandish than others. Discover where the murders took place, how the killer outwitted the police, and the many legends and conspiracy theories that have built up around the subject. This absorbing guide to one of the city's more infamous periods is an essential companion for Londoner and tourist alike.

Small enough to fit in a pocket it packs enough in. There is some cross referencing which might enable a few side visits to some of the places not directly linked but relevant all the same. Not exactly a cornerstone of Ripperology it is more suitable fot those first timers to the area who might want to explore on their own.
