Saw this last night and I have to be honest when I say that I was slightly worried that they'd mess this up... How wrong was I!

This movie rocked and it's in the same tone as all other good Batman material - dark, brooding and at the centre is a solid story. I'm a big fan of Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill, but the folks in the movie nailed the voices which in my opinion is a big thing.

Make no mistake, this is not one for the kids, but as a grown man (yes I'll unashamedly admit to it!) this is definately intended for the older teens/adult audience.

Good script, excellent action, no soppy love interests storylines and good characters - overall, an excellent movie that should be added to any true batfan dvd collection. My only gripe is that I wish it was a bit longer... maybe this is something DC/Warner should consider for future projects.

GREAT 26 July 2010

DC is at it again. this time with the batman who is on the quest to search and take down the obnoxious figure known as the red hood who has become somewhat of a pain to the gotham drug lords.
Great animation with a brilliant and dark storyline to keep you glued. as usual with other DC animations, there are no single boring moments. However, the only problem i had with this wonderful masterpiece is the absence of mark hamil as the joker.(trust me you will miss him!)
Oh! and parents who want to buy this for their kids should be warned.for the fact that this is a super hero animation, there are some extremely brutal scenes.

Add this to your DC collection!

By J. Morris TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Blu-ray
Under the Red Hood is the latest animated feature-length Batman instalment based on the stories Under the Hood & Death in the Family. When a stranger sporting a costume reminiscent of the Joker's Red-Hood shows up in Gotham and starts picking off drug-lords, Batman is forced to reconcile a chapter from his past he thought was truly laid to rest. Not content with merely killing the bad-guys and stealing their business, this new Red-Hood has a plan that involves Batman & The Joker more than they both know...

Fantastically animated and brilliantly voiced this story really has a great plot, Red-Hood is a truly formidable opponent for the Detective with gadgets and skills to rival the man himself. A few classic characters rear their head for decent cameos (The Black Mask, Nightwing & The Riddler amongst others). Batman is well voice by Bruce Greenwood, steering well clear of the 'Bale gruffness' and Neil Patrick Harris plays a brilliant rendition of Nightwing.

John Dimaggio (Bender from Futurama) give an excellent performance as the Joker, but really can't hold a candle to Mark Hamil, that's not to say he isn't good, but in my opinion Mark Hamil's voice IS the Joker's voice. There is plenty of the usual Batman antics here, grapple-gun swinging and batarang throwing and the fight-scenes are slick & well choreographed, fans will not be disappointed.

Whilst this version of Red-Hood is extremely proficient with all sorts of weaponry and fighting-styles, he is a little too similar to Deadpool from the Marvel universe. More than a couple of times I found myself thinking that it was a straight rip-off with basically no differences from the Marvel character aside from the back-story.

Despite this, this really is a great addition to the DC universe. The animation is fantastic and the resolution even holds up on Blu-Ray (animation can look a little grainy sometimes, but not here) Warner Animation have done a sterling job. Additionally the Blu-Ray even features an animated short of the antihero Jonah Hex which is a welcome bonus.

Recommended for Batman fans and comic fans alike!!

Absolutely fantatstic, only one slight flaw.
The story is great, even the cheesy flashbacks work ok. And for a person who dislikes the very young, unbelievable character of robin boy wounder i found this story very appealing. Read more

As good as it gets for animated movies
Dark, moody, good dialogue, stylish... First one of these I've watched and not seen another as good. It was pretty violent for a 12 and so will suit adult audiences as well. Read more
