4.0 out of 5 stars Best animated Batman film for a long time 23 July 2010
By J. Morris TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
Format:Blu-ray
Under the Red Hood is the latest animated feature-length Batman instalment based on the stories Under the Hood & Death in the Family. When a stranger sporting a costume reminiscent of the Joker's Red-Hood shows up in Gotham and starts picking off drug-lords, Batman is forced to reconcile a chapter from his past he thought was truly laid to rest. Not content with merely killing the bad-guys and stealing their business, this new Red-Hood has a plan that involves Batman & The Joker more than they both know...

Fantastically animated and brilliantly voiced this story really has a great plot, Red-Hood is a truly formidable opponent for the Detective with gadgets and skills to rival the man himself. A few classic characters rear their head for decent cameos (The Black Mask, Nightwing & The Riddler amongst others). Batman is well voice by Bruce Greenwood, steering well clear of the 'Bale gruffness' and Neil Patrick Harris plays a brilliant rendition of Nightwing.

John Dimaggio (Bender from Futurama) give an excellent performance as the Joker, but really can't hold a candle to Mark Hamil, that's not to say he isn't good, but in my opinion Mark Hamil's voice IS the Joker's voice. There is plenty of the usual Batman antics here, grapple-gun swinging and batarang throwing and the fight-scenes are slick & well choreographed, fans will not be disappointed.

Whilst this version of Red-Hood is extremely proficient with all sorts of weaponry and fighting-styles, he is a little too similar to Deadpool from the Marvel universe.

By R. Wood TOP 1000 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
Format:DVD
The death of Jason Todd, the second teenager to go by the superhero alias of Robin the Boy Wonder.

Where do I even START?

The infamous and unforgettable saga `A Death in the Family' still stands as one of the most controversial, iconic, and downright classic events, not just in Batman, but the whole of comics history. It was where the Joker had finally won, beating Robin almost to death and then blowing up what was left in a warehouse explosion, with the Caped Crusader failing to save him in time. And it was all voted for by the fans!

Then several years later...writer Judd Winick did something just as controversial, iconic and downright classic. He did the unthinkable, and resurrected Jason Todd as the notorious Red Hood, a Batman who KILLS. "Under the Hood' was a saga that proved to be just as popular, bestselling and divisive as its predecessor. Another milestone in the colourful tapestry of Batman's career.

Surely the notion of translating something of that magnitude into a feature-length animation would be a very difficult feat, yet Warner Bros. Animation have done just that with their latest direct-to-video OAV. Batman: Under the Red Hood adapts the whole dark, violent Jason Todd story into seventy-two minutes of blistering excitement and suspense that no Batman fan can afford to miss.

The plot is almost identical to the comics, with the film starting with Robin being tortured by the Joker and Batman ultimately failing to save him. Five years later, the enigmatic Red Hood arrives in Gotham City to wage his war on Black Mask, the crime lord who now has Gotham completely under his control. As Batman struggles to deal with the new menace and unearth the truth behind his identity, ghosts will return to torment the Dark Knight more than ever.

4.0 out of 5 stars Definately one to watch. 28 July 2010
Format:Blu-ray
Saw this last night and I have to be honest when I say that I was slightly worried that they'd mess this up... How wrong was I!

This movie rocked and it's in the same tone as all other good Batman material - dark, brooding and at the centre is a solid story. I'm a big fan of Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill, but the folks in the movie nailed the voices which in my opinion is a big thing.

Make no mistake, this is not one for the kids, but as a grown man (yes I'll unashamedly admit to it!) this is definately intended for the older teens/adult audience.

Good script, excellent action, no soppy love interests storylines and good characters - overall, an excellent movie that should be added to any true batfan dvd collection. My only gripe is that I wish it was a bit longer... maybe this is something DC/Warner should consider for future projects.

4.0 out of 5 stars GREAT 26 July 2010
By Hornet
Format:Blu-ray
DC is at it again. this time with the batman who is on the quest to search and take down the obnoxious figure known as the red hood who has become somewhat of a pain to the gotham drug lords.
Great animation with a brilliant and dark storyline to keep you glued. as usual with other DC animations, there are no single boring moments. However, the only problem i had with this wonderful masterpiece is the absence of mark hamil as the joker.(trust me you will miss him!)
Oh! and parents who want to buy this for their kids should be warned.for the fact that this is a super hero animation, there are some extremely brutal scenes.

Add this to your DC collection!
