Review

"A jaw-dropping use of the comic book form. I am absolutely certain that the first full image of the Joker from this issue will never leave my memory."--IGN"Now's a great time to be a Batman fan. Or a Robin fan. Or just a casual reader looking for a compelling Joker story."--CBR"It's creepier than POLTERGEIST's Carol Ann in a movie with the two chicks from THE SHINING, really."--AICN

The previous batman and robin series was spectacular and was written by my favourite comic book author: Grant Morrison. The reason I read this was because it tied in to death of the family. I loved this, especially the annual, which really was about character development as well as a crime. Though the death of the family tie in wasn't as good as nightwing's or red robin's, it was still enjoyable. Buy this book today.

The stories running through issues #15-17 of the `New 52' Batman and Robin title are collected, along with Annual #1 and Batman #17, as Batman and Robin Volume 3: Death of the Family TP (The New 52) (Batman & Robin (Numbered)). These stories are excellently scripted and illustrated, and do seem to be going somewhere, unlike in many Batman titles. Unfortunately, we know now that they are going to Batman Incorporated Volume 2: Gotham's Most Wanted HC (The New 52) - and Batman and Robin Vol. 4: Requiem for Damian (The New 52) (Batman & Robin).

However, we can still enjoy ourselves before we get there.

This volume opens with the Batman & Robin (and Alfred and Titus) Annual, in which Damian has set up a treasure hunt for Bruce Wayne (following on from the theme of "Pearl" in the previous volume). As Bruce Wayne and Alfred trot around Europe uncovering artefacts from Bruce Wayne's parents' lives, Damian (and Titus) is running riot in Gotham City as its new Batman. Alfred also gets to rediscover his roots on the stage in old London town

This is an excellent adventure, both in story, art and scripting.

Issues #15 and #16 are this title's contribution to the `Death of the Family' story, and Damian must once again take on the Joker alone, as he sets off to find the kidnapped Alfred, before being pitted in combat against a Batman drugged by the Joker-venom. This concludes, as do all the Batman-family crossovers, in Batman #17.

This graphic novel is a must have for any Batman (and/or Robin) fan. Most of the material within the book is present in the Joker: Death Of the Family graphic novel (A collection of all of the issues involved with the Death of the Family arc), however there are one or two issues which are exclusive to this volume. A great read and seeing as it is one of the Boy wonder's last adventures it's a much more emotional read than I would have thought! Buy it!
