Synopsis

In director Tim Burton's sequel to his successful BATMAN (1989), the Caped Crusader (Michael Keaton) is pitted against the demented, ravenous Penguin (Danny DeVito), a pitiful, orphaned psychopathic freak who once went on a baby-killing spree, and a 'power' hungry capitalist villain Max Shreck (Christopher Walken). As the two criminals plot to gain domination over Gotham City, BATMAN must plot to stop them. In the highly stylized BATMAN RETURNS--complete with dark, Gothic architecture and moody lighting--Batman (and his alter-ego Bruce Wayne) is thrown a third enemy, a terrible distraction: Catwoman (fearlessly and fabulously played by Michelle Pfeiffer). She is the slinky, sharp-clawed alter-ego of Shreck's secretary Selina. Batman must overcome his own dark past, and his present love entanglements, to rid Gotham of its evil enemies, this time with even more intricately designed sets and tongue-in-cheek humour, making BATMAN RETURNS an action-packed, darkly fun adventure.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Bat, the Cat and the Penguin x 1080!, 23 Dec 2008

Watched this on saturday and i gotta be honest it looks stunning and dare i say a better blu ray transfer than the Dark Knight. The detail is incredible for a 16 year old film and it sounds fantastic too! The blacks are very deep and the white of the snow really makes it pop. Highly recommended. Another great WB disc.

5.0 out of 5 stars Batman returns, 10 Jan 2009

One of my favourite batman films, I like it as much as the first maybe a little bit more, and like the first, on bluray the pic quality is very good and sharp for an old film, in some places, with the snow, falling at night, or during the day where people are walking in it, it is stunning, and it places with building textures which are really detailed even at night, and of course Michelle Pfeiffer who looks hot and really good in high def whether shes in her sexy cat suit or not, keaton is good as the dark hero we all know and love, if your a batman fan, or like good superhero movies, this is a good one for you collection on bluray

4.0 out of 5 stars Batman Returns Blu ray, 31 Dec 2008
No way is the transfer on this film anywhere near as good as the Dark Knight. It is obvious that the film has simply been transfered to Blu Ray without any touching up or remaster job being done. That said it is still a good transfer and very crisp and clear for an older film but their is some noticeable grain at times. Sound is dolby true hd which sounds great on a good set up.

The biggest selling point for me with this film is that not only does it contain all the bonus features from the 2 disc dvd edition it also contains the Tim Burton commentary track. many of you may remember that this was missing from the 2 disc dvd. The reason for this was that at the last minute the BBFC decided to cut one scene from the film where catwoman puts some areosol cans in the microwave in the department store and this blows up. Apparantly the BBFC thought this might be copied by impressionable kids, Doh!! by taking out this scene it also meant the commentary had to be taken out although the dvd box still stated it was on the disc.

This version of the film is fully uncut and does include the described catwoman scene and the commentary so get this quick in case the BBFC realise this and cut future releases.

It's easy to forget that the batman films are actually part of Tim Burton's discography, you normally always think of Scissorhands or NMBC, Corpse Bride etc. Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars A solid release on Blu-Ray for Burton's Batman sequel
I was looking forward to Burton's Batman coming to Blu-Ray, I like the Nolan films just as much but think they take themselves a little too seriously. Read more
