I love this record - to my untrained ears it is a perfect meeting of understated be-bop jazz and chamber music (forgive the pun). The way he bowed the bass sends shivers of pleasure down my spine. To my knowledge PC didn't record any other stuff as leader in a hornless band, which is a shame because this is where his sound really shines. The other musicians, who obviously all speak for themselves, are also clearly having a lot of fun. If you like the interplay here then try PC's work with Art Taylor and Red Garland - more melodic and prettier tunes, less ambitious maybe, but also a great showcase for this bassman. The only other record I know by this musician as leader is Whims of Chambers, which I've lost, and includes the splendid 'tale of the fingers' in trio. If anyone knows other records by PC please advise.
