Although I disagree with the other reviewer about " the little use of Basque when all Basque people speak Spanish ", I agree when said, this is a phrase book mainly for holidays, and , I add, to get on better with, and surprise / delight the Basque speakers; or to get a taste of the language, but not really for a deeper study of the Basque language or literature: The dictionary section is much too thin. I would advise to get for that the other dictionary by Gorka Aulestia.
The other Hippocrene book, " Beginner's Basque ", I found more substancial and it also includes a fair Glossary at the end of the book.

Seeing as only 25% of the Basque Country speak Basque, and all Basque speakers population also speak Spanish, I personally don't see the point in learning a few set phrases of Basque for holiday usage. However, if one wants to do that and nothing more, this could be the right book.
The English-Basque-English dictionary hovers between basic and sufficient, the "holiday phrases" section is extensive. The grammar section is so basic that I fail to see the point of it.
The book could be useful on short trips/holidays to the Basque Country, but if you want to learn the language seriously, look elsewhere.

The origin of the Basque language is yet to be unravelled! This publication makes a valiant effort to equip the traveller to the Basque countries some understanding of the basics. From a practical viewpoint, most Basques have a command of the Spanish language, and don't be surpised by those who speak American-English! This is brought about by the strong, long standing and considerable union with a number os States in the USA West.

I was hoping this compact guide would be more user-friendly.. larger text.. kind of a "Basque for Dummies". This language is no walk in the park. If you really want to learn it, I'd suggest a more expansive book or CD.
In addition to being hard to navigate, the pages of my book weren't bound correctly.
Wish there was a "Language Map" for Basque!
