For 400 years a bitter rivalry has existed between ninja clans the kouga and the iga. The only thing that has kept both clans in check is a law forbidding violence from either clan implemented by legendary folk hero hattori Hanzo. Now just as it looks like the bitter rift may be ending with the proposed marriage between future leaders of both clans, the law that has kept them in check is repealed and violence and retribution follow swiftly.
The best show to compare this to in both tone and content is ninja scroll, mixing as it does historical detail, folklore and fantasy martial arts. It also features lots of violence, and some sex so definately one for older viewers. The show also has plenty of pathos, refuses to reduce things to black and white good vs evil, instead highlights the conflict between both clans as a massive tragedy, orchstrated behind the scenes by corrupt politicians. Personally as a fan of ninja scroll and other ninja and samurai drama I enjoyed this a lot and the show seemed to fly by, so In highly reccomend buying it.
As usual with slim-pack re-issues, there is a lack of extras. Mainly this release is bare bones and just the episodes, but for me that was ok. Personally I love these budget rereleases as All i really want is good quality episodes at an affordable price. Funimation have delivered in this respect from the slayers and yu-yu hakusho collections to the veridian collection of which this is part.
Overall then, top quality and affordable to boot so definately worth buying!
