THIS DVD IS EX-DISPLAY - Very Good to Excellent Condition - BECOMING VERY COLLECTABLE NOW DAYS - HARD TO FIND - BX6 - Maybe A Few Very Fine Surface Marks Due To Cleaning - Tested - Plays Fine (The case may be slightly shop soiled but the disc has been kept in a plastic disc sleeve in a dry area). This dvd has been inspected & tested plays fine maybe a few fine surface marks.

Virtually unreleased in the cinemas, this is a fine adaptation of Wilkie Collins novel. The story of passion , betrayal, vengeance & revenge,is a timeless idea, and this film handles it well. With excellent performances from a very good cast, it deserved a better distribution, and much wider recognition. Christian Slater is always excellent, and hopefully soon he'll get a role which propels him back to where he should be ..as a top leading man, maybe then this film (one of many he's made recently without much of a fanfare), will be re-issued !.
(THE FILM)This visually stunning film explores passion, betrayal, vengeance and revenge and their effect on the life of a naive and unseasoned young man. Basil, yearning for freedom from the constraints of aristocracy, disregards his position and wealth to pursue the passionate love of a beautiful woman. Betrayed by this love and deceived by the man he thought a friend, Basil finds he is the victim of a sinister plot for revenge. He hunts down his tormentor and in a violent fight, comes face to face with the price of vengeance. He escaped to the coast of Ireland to face his demons, comes to terms with his past, and discovers a future that holds the promise of new beginnings.
WHAT CAN I SAY?
The story was excellent! Unfortunately, this film wasn't released in theaters Jared Leto, Christian Slater, and the beautiful Clair Forlani are just magnificent in this film. It's very tastefully done, and the scenery is beautiful. Proper in it's time, but still society itself was not at all proper. Aristicratic life was very demanding, and to this day, still is. In the end, we are all the same no matter what class we are brought up in.. the film looks beautiful and has good locations and period detail. (Basil) is a very good romantic period piece in the tradition of Dickens
