2 of 2 people found the following review helpful By C. J. Statham on 30 May 2007
A great little purchase for any designers or colorheadz who value well illustrated principles being written in a clear and honest way.
This is part of the fantastic 'design series' by Central Saint Martin's tutor Gavin Ambrose and condequently the information is invaluable for students and practising designers as a reference tool. The layout is fresh and well-executed, offering some inspiring examples of color use in contemporary graphics. There are also some great extra details in here that skirt on peripheral issues such as light and the effect of color on different printing mediums. This is a great value book with loads of visual anchorage. Get this and you'll probably want one of the other ones too. Ace.

I read this book alongside Basics Design: Layout. Both are fantastic reference books; ideal for someone starting out in design and also as a book to return back to. Although clearly written with the graphic design student in mind, I think these two titles are fantastic for anyone interested in publishing, the media, art or design. The book covers many areas of colour theory with the images in the book allowing the reader to think about the use of colour and how this works in commercial design. The layout and organisation of the book ensures clarity in what can be a difficult subject to fully understand.
