Format: Paperback
Architectural studies are a challenging process as you try to balance developing your own ideas whilst learning from those who are more experienced in the field.
This book is a helpful guide, not only for the topics and methods that it covers, but also for the conversation that it has about the mystery of design. Although driven by personal creativity, there are practical handles that can inform your process and final designs.
The interviews within the book are a rare glimpse into the thinking and decisions of well-known architects that result in quality architecture. Through questions and answers Anderson manages to accumulate a solid foundation of thought and develop a direction for us to become more intentional in the way we design.
With a format that is easy to follow, this book is a valuable tool that can give you a place to start or help you see your design process in a fresh way.

For students in the field of architecture, this book is a compelling overview of the process involved in architectural design. In order to capture the essence, Anderson carefully selected projects which demonstrate a process by which architectural designers think and express their ideas.
The book is structured to contextualise the current design field by going through the studio culture, the design process and the design projects. In each chapter Anderson selects both student and professional works to demonstrate how the design process is successfully continued outside the academic environment.
Architecture is mostly seen and judged as a final product, removed from the individuality and process by which design decisions were made. This book gives us an insight into the world of an architectural designer both in learning as well as in practice. A book worth having.

I bought this and other books as gifts for a young teen interested in becoming an architect. He immediately picked it up and didnt put it down until he completed it. He created a library of special books he wants to be able to go back to and this one is in it. Thank you for this.
