This is not what I expected, which may not be their fault, but you should be aware in case you're looking for what I was looking for. I was looking for basic plumbing information like, "How do I connect two fittings together so they don't leak". I sought answers to what I consider basic plumbing questions such as, "What are the relative advantages/disadvantages of teflon tape, horsehair, or some goop-in-a-tube in accomplishing a watertight connection?", "How tight should the connection be (maybe a torque value)?".

The answers to these questions are not here. The level of plumbing you will learn is how to change washers in your household taps. If that's what you're looking for look no further, but if it's not, keep looking.

Very well laid out book, lots of great pictures. One problem. Written for the USA. All measurements are in imperial, also a lot of the fittings used are not available in the UK so some examples are hard to follow. Not a single mention of common systems such as combination boilers, push-fit connectors etc. Hardly touches the subject of central heating! Considering its date of publication (recent), not very good. Only information for waste water drainage was useful. The principles for plumbing are there, but out of date and no use for UK DIY.

My personal review 18 Dec 2003
Format:Paperback
This book is ideal for the novice plumber. The book teaches you how to change washers in a tap, repair leaks, unblock drain pipes, types of tools needed, type of pipes, general flow of water in the home, etc etc. I recommend it as an introduction to plumbing, but you will need another book if you wish to learn DIY at home or make a career out of it !. Basically its not a bad book....
