Good overview! But lacking summary/definitions at the end of chapters
on 16 April 2010
This book gives a comprehensive and nice overview of history and evolution through time. It is written in an interesting way - as a student, I found some parts hard to get through, but I suppose this was me not being particularly interested in the first part of evolution. Very interesting and original is that each chapter contains boxes in which the topics 'hot topics/debates', 'paleobiological tool', 'exceptional and new discoveries', 'quantitative methods' and 'cladogram/classification' are discussed.
Also a few (minor) things on the downside:
I missed the chapter numbers on top of each page which would make it easier to find the part you want to read.
Although the book gives a nice sum up of history, I missed a kind of summary / important definitions at the end of each chapter. This would make it easier to learn and study the chapters besides from just reading them. Of course you could write this yourself. There are review questions at the end of each chapter.
