I have found this book to be very useful in learning to play the folk harp. Even if you have no prior musical knowledge this book is very good. I personally find it advantageous to read a number of tutor books to get the best overall approach to learning, but this book is one of the best I've used!

This book was my first harp tutor book, I have found it a great introduction to the instrument and it gives clear instructions on what you should be doing right from the beginning.
The best part of this book is the hand written notes on the music that guides you with correct fingering (and also helps those who cant read music). Within a short period of time you will be playing your harp with confidence.
The only draw back to this tutor book is that there is no middle ground and seems to jump from an excellent intoduction to the harp to quite complex passages for someone who has never read music before.
Would highly recommend this book for anyone who is starting on the harp and can play other instruments and read music.

I really wish I'd bought this book earlier, I've struggled through many others including the most popular "teach yourself to play folk harp", which jumps a lot.. however this book is a perfectly paced for a fustrated beginner like I was. Its combination of excerises/beautiful melodies/theory/ are fantastic. The explanations are clear and easy to understand, which makes learning so much easier.

The book explains a lot of things that other harp books miss out, I found learning chords to be a godsend, other things like scales, crossovers, and how to use your levers... why the other popular harp books miss out on these things I'll never know!

The sheet music has been written from a beginners point of view, ie- it has the notes written underneath, saving me time! as the first thing I do with every new piece I learn is to figure out all the notes.

If you're only going to buy one harp book to learn from- this is it!

This book is best suited to those who cannot read music, and have little or no music theory knowledge.
