Book Description

25 Dec 2003 0415284058 978-0415284059 Bilingual

Basic German: A Grammar and Workbook comprises an accessible reference grammar and related exercises in a single volume.

Suitable for independent study and for class use, it introduces German people and culture through the medium of the language used today, covering the core material that students would expect to encounter in their first year of learning German. Each of the twenty-eight units presents one or more related grammar topics, illustrated by examples which serve as models for the exercises that follow. These wide-ranging and varied exercises enable the student to master each grammar point thoroughly.

Features include:

*clear grammatical explanations with examples in both English and German
*authentic language samples from a range of media
*checklists at the end of each unit to reinforce key points
*cross-referencing to other grammar chapters
*full exercise answer key
*glossary of grammatical terms.

Basic German is the ideal reference and practice book for beginners, but also for students with some knowledge of the language.

Only missing some more exercises...you can't teach German yourself only with this book. But with teacher it is very good.

4.0 out of 5 stars Carefully organized, comes with answer key 26 Feb 2010
By Brian Jetter - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
It's nice to have a book that comes with an answer key for a change. Too many of these come with questions but no way to determine if you got it right. This one could use a pronunciation guide but other than that it's pretty good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic German Resource for Self-study 26 Dec 2011
By Eds Word - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This text/workbook is just what you need for a structured, grammar-oriented introduction to German. After completing this text you will understand the structure of the German language equivalent to a two-semester college course. The text is self-contained and the grammar is introduced in a user-friendly way requiring no previous exposure to grammatical terms. This book does not cover pronunciation; a good program of self-study would be to go through this book to cover language structure and the Michel Thomas German course to learn the spoken language. As is the case generally the case for volumes in the Routledge language series, the thoroughness and clear presentation of the content outweighs the somewhat steep price and will make your purchase an excellent value.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best book for simple german grammer 13 May 2012
By Jet_Leg - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I have many german grammer learning books , but this one is the best one when it comes to explaining the rules and the concepts and giving examples.
The only thing it lacks is proper exercise (it has very simple and short exercises) - so i will recommend getting another book specifically for grammer exercise.

Overall if you are learning german - do not miss this book!
