I wanted an introduction to Freud but I didn't want it too brief, and I wanted it to be understandable. I got all three with this book.
The author takes us through Freud's ideas, chapter by chapter, so there's one on guilt, one of the oepidus complex, one on grief and so on. He adapts Freud's ideas for the 21st century, demonstrating how they are still relevant, although occasionally in need of tweaking.
I wanted to learn something about myself by reading this book, and things about people too. I did, particularly about myself. I found myself averting my eyes from the pages to think, and managed to make links with things in my past and the way I am now.
I may well look more into Freud in the future, but this was an accessible and readable introduction.
