Verified Purchase
I first had this version of Bartok's The Miraculous Mandarin and Concerto for Orchestra on cassette in the nineties (recorded in 1990). I recently updated it to CD because I think it is one of the best recordings of Bartok's masterpieces, performed by Hiroyuki Iwaki and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. They give spellbinding performances of these works especially the Miraculous Mandarin, which is why I really like it. I have also recently bought the Sir George Solti/Chicago Symphony Orchestra versions of both pieces, which are excellent as well, and I considered parting company with the MSO recording. But, because of the sheer quality and power of the Hiroyuki Iwaki/MSO playing, it is staying in my collection as well.
