Around 1990 the Cooper Union School of Architecture in NYC released the seminal schoolbook; The Education of an Architect. A decade later the Bartlett School of Architecture in London releases its own version which, although undoubtedly beguiling in its imagery of non-functioning machinery and hieroglyphic drawing, remains ultimately frustrating because the included projects have not been granted space in which to communicate ANY development beyond the idea. More writing, less hyper-texted soundbite titles? Detail craftsmanship, that most english of traits, has prevailed over conceptual, communicative depth.
