Always meant to buy this album back in the day and now I have, boy am I glad I did, great guitar work from Mr Goudreau, Killer hooks and riffs and classy concise solos with great harmony singing. Boston without all the technical tweaking and `gilding the lily'. If you liked the first two Boston Albums, especially the shorter `rockier' tracks ie; `Rock & Roll Band,`Smokin, `Something about you', Its easy', `Party', etc, then you will love this. Rock on Barry Goudreau!!

Less than a footnote 14 May 2007
By Daiho
Format:Audio CD
Tired of waiting for Tom Scholz to release material for Boston's third album, guitarist Barry Goudreau borrowed vocalist Brad Delp and drummer Sid Hashian to record this solo project, co-produced by John Boylan (an assistant on Boston's two previous projects). The album was released by Boston's parent company, CBS, and marketed as "Almost Boston," a move that convinced Scholz that Goudreau and his record company were conspiring to take Boston away from him. Scholz and Goudreau would not work together for nearly three decades. This album also features the songwriting and vocals of Fran Cosmo, who in the 90's contributed to Boston's fourth and fifth releases, Walk On and Corporate America.

Where Boston's first two albums still sound fresh 30 years later, this album sounds like you might expect something that was written, recorded and produced in six months and shows quite clearly that Scholz' compositional skills and methodical perfectionism in the studio are the key ingredients to the Boston sound. Only one track here sounds remotely like Boston, Goudreau and Delp's "Dreams," the only song that will resurface on tour in the pair's future RTZ project and which saves this recording from a zero rating. Check out the two RTZ recordings for a much better taste of Goudreau.

Barry Goudreau from the band Boston 24 Sep 2004
By Gitters - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
In 1980,Barry Goudreau of Boston decided to make a solo album. He brought most of Boston with him for his self titled album.Brad Delp handles the vocals and Sib also from Boston plays the drums, I'm not sure on who the rest of the band is, I have a cassette so it doesn't say anywhere.Goudreau's solo album, should have been Boston's third album like previous reviewers have stated. This album has the Boston sound! If you like 1976's Boston and it's 1978 follow up Don't Look Back you will like Barry Goudreau!A few highlights off the album include: Hard Luck, NOthin' to Lose, Dreams, and Sailin' Away. Possibly the best album nobody remembers or has heard of.

An interesting artifact for lovers of the band Boston. 11 Jun 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Tired of waiting around for Tom Scholz to finish the latest Boston album, most of the band got together and recorded this above average album. There are a couple of really great tunes here- "Dreams" (the best Boston song that Boston never recorded) is worth the price of the album alone, while "Life is What We Make It" & "Sailin' Away" would cover shipping & handling. All-in-all, this is better than Boston's Walk On.

What's most interesting is the addition of Fran Cosmo to the line up. The story goes that he was added because the real Fran from Boston didn't want to participate. Fran Cosmo of course stayed with Barry after this project for Orion the Hunter ("So You Ran"), while Brad Delp returned to Boston for Third Stage. Brad then rejoined Barry (his brother-in-law) to form RTZ, while Fran then joined Boston as one of the many blended voices attempting to recreate Brad's voice for Boston's Walk On. Brad then recorded new songs for Boston's Greatest Hits package, while still singing for RTZ. The revolving singers is a very interesting story.

Great Boston sound, but without Tom. 23 Aug 1998
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
This album features band members from the group Boston, and is very similar in sound. If you like power chords and rock and roll, this album is a must have.
