Despite Ms. Huang being ethically Chinese, I have never heard her live or on record, until I bumped into this album released almost a decade ago, and her more recent (2008) performance of the violin concerto 'Butterfly Lovers' on Youtube.
Among the Chinese violinists currently performing today, Ms. Huang Bin clearly has the edge of not just techical perfection, but musicality.
There are a number of 'magicians' in the younger generation of Chinese violinists, but none of them measures up to Ms. Huang's level of interpretative ability and musicality.
The works showcased in this album are baroque favourites performed and recorded by numerous top violinists over the world and over the ages.
Huang Bin's collection has its own fair share of lustre even among the best performances: the tone is exceedingly beautiful, the rhythms very well maintained throughout, nuances are well brought out and the collaboration with the pianoforte, played by Korean lady pianist Kim Hyun Sun, is impeccable.
My only wish is to hear so more from her.
