As a working parent, I welcome any program that doesn't use violence or sick humor that engages my kids. Once our kids got too old for Teletubbies or Baby Einstein (about 1 1/2), Barney came to the rescue. Yes, he is a little unctious. But he's meant for kids! My kids could watch him all day---I don't let them. But better yet, I can get a 45 minute break every day from letting them watch the same video!

The songs are very cute, and at his best, Barney teaches kids how to be good. This is the boy scout mentality that Americans instill into their children. I like this much more than the moral free Teletubbies or overly difficult Sesame street offerings. This is TV for play. Ideal for kids and not to be missed!

Your little cherub(s) will want to watch videos all day if they can (don't let them), but the chances are you will actually want to do something with your day, so you will give in once in a while.
Barney has to be the most mind numbing of kids videos. Go for the baby Einstein series for the smaller ones, and then Teletubbies. Barney is an annoying (in the extreme) purple dinosaur with a US accent, but its the annoyance factor that gets you in the end. I like to watch videos with my daughter once in a while to attempt to join in with her learning experience, but I cannot handle that mind numbing dinosaur, or the precocious children helpers for that matter. In this video Barney enlists the help of Mother Goose to sing some rhymes (US versions).
I hope I never see another Barney Video, but no doubt our daughter will get bought one for Christmas (sigh).
Your kids will love it and want to watch it repeatedly. Parents will hate it if they are in the same room as the TV. Do yourself a favour and please get your child a Barney puzzle instead - I'm sure Amazon do some. It will get their mind working far more, and is far less painful to endure for a parent than this video.
