I looked around at great length for a quality tablet that didn't cost the earth for my son for Xmas. I decided that if Nook was mainstream in USA then they couldn't be half bad and picked one up for £135 for a 16Gb. Now we own two of them as I have since bought myself one as I was that impressed.
We have an ipad in the house and in comparison the ipad is slicker overall but for a third of the price the Nook is the winner hands down. I have downloaded one of the android SD cards for mine to give it android 4.2.2 jellybean and it is just superb. The screen is bright, clear, and responsive and although overall it is slower than the ipad at processing and downloading it's hardly slow. The only other thing that isn't as good as the ipad is the battery life, but again it is still easily acceptable and not that bad that it's a problem at all.
The kids have downloaded games & videos onto them and we haven't found anything it can't handle yet so I can't give it any less than the full five stars.

I love the Nook. The 9inch HD screen is fabulous and I am discovering the world of android apps and slowly also discovering ebooks. Very different to my Mac but most enjoyable.

I Purchased a kindle hd for reading books but for magazines the 7" screen is a bit to small. So i purchased the nook 9" after seeing it in currys and it is better for reading magazine size items.

Initiatly it was not as good as the kindle hd and the nexus 7 apart from having a bigger screen.

But they have recently made some very good improvements and it is now on a par with them.

When you read online professional reviews, you think you get a thorough examination of the product, but then when you actually use it, you find the reality somewhat different. To an extent this could be that they focus on what they think is important to themselves, but need to be more balanced and logical.

So i'm looking for a tablet under £200. Thought of the Toshiba Excite pro, but it had severe over-heating issues, so I found this one. The one that looks to good to be true. So after many reading/seeing many reviews I go ahead and take the plunge.

Starting of with the outer build quality. The thick bezel around the edge of the screen is very good, easy to hold, rubbery feel, for right or left handers and won't leave any smudge marks on those!. The back cover is a light textured coating, it can absorb sweaty hands, does leave slight marks though, but nothing major. There is a laynard hole to the bottom left in portrait mode, basically you can attack some type of lock/rope to it, but a more interesting use is if you use a pen and put it through the hole, it can act like a kick-stand, although not at the best angle, it's still pritty good. While some reviews have said this is pointless addition, I have to beg to differ.
The charger is propriatary, so don't lose it, it also acts as a data tranfer cable. Again on every review they have complained that you can't charge your tablet through the usb cable attached to your pc/laptop. well I got news for you, you can! if you go to device information in the settings then you will see it saying "Discharging" so you think that its not charging, but if you wait long enough the percentage goes up! it takes around 6 minutes to go up 1%, therefore it will take some 10 hours to fully charge.

The hardware is impressive for the price paid. The tablet experience can be improved if you install a custom ROM
