I am strongly biased in favour of Trevor Horn, having bought virtually everything he has been associated with, from the masterpieces by Frankie, Propaganda and Grace Jones through to the more problematic stuff such as G4, Glam Metal Detectives and even er Boyzone. There, I've said it.
As a record producer Horn is probably a genius, but not everything a genius does is a masterpiece.
This CD single, which features long time Horn cohorts Steve Lipson and Lol Creme, I like though I thought the name of the band a bit uninspired. What matters are the quality of the musicianship and the production standards which are very high indeed as you'd expect. The songs are very good.
Track One of this CD single is a sentimental strumming aint-love-great type of piece that hangs pretty loose. The lead vocal does sound a bit like Tom Petty in places.
Track Two - Freeway - harks back to the Buggle and is a kind of plasticised urban mini epic about the thrill of speed on the open road. I was especially impressed by the drumming, which is superb.
Needless to say, I'll be buying the forthcoming album. The Producers are the business.
