Product Description

From the Publisher

Experience the spark and excitement of the 60's tumultuous music scene from a man who lived through it all — English bass guitarist John Bobin. Bobin’s candid clear-eyed look at the perils and pitfalls of fame – including the occasional disastrous tour, give scope and breadth to an absolutely engrossing tale. Profits from the sale of the book go to cancer research.

About the Author

John Bobin was born in Southend on Sea, in Essex, England in 1948. A bass guitarist since the age of twelve, he has recorded for Polydor, Columbia and Vertigo and has worked for pirate radio stations as well. Retired from the professional music business, he now works for a specialist Business Processing Services company. A keen cyclist, he still plays bass and rock and roll is still in his heart!

5.0 out of 5 stars An Irish Perspective, 1 April 2006
By
Nick Ryan (Kenmare, Kerry Ireland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bark Staving Ronkers (Paperback)
You are 'stark raving bonkers' (a clever anagram of the book's title) if you do not buy and enjoy this epistle from the pen of
veteran bass player Bon Jobin (another clever anagram).
It is well-researched, informative, funny and so engaging that I was forced to read it from beginning to end in one marathon
squint fest.
It took me back to the days of beat groups, Commer vans, coffee bars, Selmer Goliaths, Linear Concord amplifiers, Spangles and
Perhams outfitters opposite the Cricketers.
If I may be permitted one last anagram......This book is Gucking Freat. Do buy it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bark Staving Ronkers - Nostalgia, 22 Mar 2006

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Bark Staving Ronkers (Paperback)
The enormous volume of well-researched information makes this a valuable reference book for anyone struggling to remember who was in the line-up of various band's throughout the sixties. However the real joy for many will be the little anecdotes about typical incidents in the life of a working band which really capture the flavour of the period. These will no doubt trigger a host of memories and many similar stories about some reader's own exploits at the time. I recognised lots of names and faces from the past and one or two I still see around today.

Easy reading, nostalgic and fun!

2.0 out of 5 stars A book of lists, 28 July 2008
By
M. J. Millar (Edinburgh, Scotland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bark Staving Ronkers (Paperback)
I was very disappointed with this book. It's not well written and for "well researched " read "the author has googled the band and copied the details into his book". Masses of unnecessary information on other bands about at the time but not gained from knowing them. Also some interesting information omitted about colleagues in the bands that he worked with. I know it's for charity but I wish I'd saved myself the bother of reading it and given the money away.
