Product Description

When the boat's a rockin’, don't come knockin’!

Out-and-proud travel writer Dan Taylor can’t steer a boat to save his life, but that doesn’t stop him from accepting an assignment to write up a narrowboat holiday. Instead of a change of pace from city life, though, the canal seems dull as ditchwater. Until he crashes into the boat of a half-naked, tattooed, pierced man whose rugged, penniless appearance is at odds with a posh accent.

Still smarting from past betrayal, Robin Hamilton’s “closet” is his narrowboat, his refuge from outrageous, provocative men like Dan. Yet he can’t seem to stop himself from rescuing the hopelessly out-of-place city boy from one scrape after another. Until he finds himself giving in to reluctant attraction, even considering a brief, harmless fling.

After all, in less than a week, Dan’s going back to his London diet of casual hook-ups and friends with benefits.

Determined not to fall in love, both men dive into one week of indulgence…only to find themselves drawn deep into an undertow of escalating intimacy and emotional intensity. Troubled waters neither of them expected…or wanted.

Warning: Contains one lovable tart, one posh boy gone feral, rough sex, alfresco sex, vile strawberry-flavoured condoms, intimate body piercings, red thermal long-johns, erotic woodchopping, an errant cat, a few colourful characters you wouldn't touch with a bargepole, and plenty of messing about on the river.

More About the Author

English through and through, Josephine Myles is addicted to tea and busy cultivating a reputation for eccentricity. She writes gay erotica and romance, but finds the erotica keeps cuddling up to the romance, and the romance keeps corrupting the erotica. Jo blames her rebellious muse but he never listens to her anyway, no matter how much she threatens him with a big stick. She's beginning to suspect he enjoys it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great British 23 July 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I'm knocking a star off here because, compared to Myles' later work, this book has some pacing issues in the final third, and I want to give her other books full credit by comparison, but frankly compared to most other things I download I'd still be giving this 5 stars in terms of my personal enjoyment. I love Myles' style, the 'Britishness' maybe (not just the language but the cultural reference points, the way the characters behave), her rough-and-ready protagonists and her ability to show a realistic arc between meeting and really coming to trust/love someone - in some romance books, once the two (or more) leads have sex, everything is hearts and flowers, but not here. Not for lack of sex, though, and one of Myles' strengths is being able to show character growth/development through a sex scene, rather than plonking in a sort of disconnected anatomy list.

Very good, her others are even better.

3.0 out of 5 stars all right 6 Dec 2011
By Furio
Format:Kindle Edition
First, a small editorial comment: please, do use the same pic of the kindle edition for the upcoming American paperback. The other one is quite bad.

This M/M romance has some very good qualities: it is fairly long, inexpensive (on kindle), well written. Characterization is accurate (side characters are especially good) and the plotting is well thought of even if some of the conflicts between the two leads seem a bit childish. The setting is also quite vivid, depicted in detail by someone who clearly knows what she is writing about.

There is a 'but' coming, of course. This was not a "I-couldn't-put-it-down" book. Robin and Dan's story interested me but only mildly. They are likeable, they ring fairly true but I could not relate to them. I am not sure whether this depends on their not being lifelike enough or on my inability to relate to English guys in their late twenties dealing with love (and boyfriends, money, alcohol, abuse and a lot of very real, everyday problems).

Sex scenes are many but plot related, well executed without being special.

All in all, for the price, give this a try and judge for yourself.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great! 7 Oct 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book is my favourite of all Josephine Myles books. I love both Robin and Dan. The book has everything in it emotions, humour, tears, romance and lots of hot scenes. I've read it again and again and it still hasn't lost its charm. Would definitely recommend it to everyone.
Five stars from me!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Sexy but believable read 14 Aug 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Great romance with bit of raunch thrown in. Characters seem well rounded and believable and the plot moves along nicely without getting too involved (albeit a bit predictable).
