Good example of "old dog" (Barenboim) teaching young Turk (Lang Lang) new tricks! Great fun for anyone who loves Beethoven.

First the quality of the dvds is amazing. And when it comes to the contents, each sonata is analysed from a world known pianist, so don't doubt his accuracy in music knowing. I bought these dvds to use them as teaching quide, and till now, served me well. I tottaly recommend this product.

Reveals the depth and pragmatism of Barenboim's thinking on Beethoven as well as his insightful approach to the sonatas themselves. Highly rewarding.

Daniel Barenboim: Beethoven Masterclasses
Anyone who loves Beethoven, and is serious about piano music will love these dvd's!
Barenboim has spent over 50 years of his life with these Masterworks and definitely has something to say not only to the younger generation of pianists but to those of us who delight in discovering something new in pieces we have been listening to, studying and playing for many years.
Almost as good as being there with the Master!

Master classes of a master pianist about a master composer! 26 Dec 2007
By Hiram Gomez Pardo - Published on Amazon.com
Format: DVD
Daniel Barenboim in his double role of director and pianist have achieved a very significant place in the most different musical stages. His talent is like a big watershed of ideas and original proposals about the importance of the sound, modulation, phrasing, fingering and articulation about some fundamental passages of the most distinguished Beethoven's Piano Sonatas.

There are notable, wisdom and substantial observations in this sense through a very warm exchange of points of view with these young pianists, as well with the present audience.

An invaluable document that must be seen not only by the newcomers musicians, but for all those who love the music.

ONE OF THE GREATEST MASTERCLASSES EVER 14 Sep 2010
By Luis Grinhauz - Published on Amazon.com

being a musician and a pianist I was glued to the CD!
Barenboim's commentaries, criticisms, demonstrations and knowledge of the Sonatas and the way he solves their difficulties is astonishing.
It is an enlightening experience and a great exposure for the talented pianists featured in the CD;some of them engaged already in promising, exciting and successful careers (like Lang Lang, here at his best and Jonathan Biss).

A MUST WATCH for pianists and amateurs alike.

I want more! 27 April 2013
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com

The worst thing about these DVDs is that they only scratch the surface of Beethoven's masterful piano sonatas. But what we do have are wonderful insights and performances.

Six up and coming pianists (why no women though?) are covered on the DVDs. Each episode follows a similar pattern: The performer comes on, plays the movement that is being analyzed, Barenboim pronounces it wonderful and then over the space of 30 minutes or so deconstructs themes, phrasing, pedaling, harmonic analysis, timing, etc. with the performer and really gets improvements. His comments are always spot on and you don't need to be able to play the pieces to get an awful lot out of it.

The performers and pieces are:

David Kadouch - Sonata No. 16, first movement.
Saleem Abboud Ashkar - Sonata No. 21 "Waldstein", first movement.
Lang Lang - Sonata No 23 "Appassionata" , first movement.

Shai Wosner - Sonata No. 17 "Tempest", first movement.
Alessio Bax - Sonata No. 29 "Hammerklavier", fourth movement.
Jonathan Bliss - Sonata No. 30, third movement.
