This ep (I hesitate to call it an album because it's so short) is beguiling. Codeine play Sub Pop guitar music, but with a difference. Exacxtly what that difference is is hard to define, though. Still, buy this and you'll see what I mean. It holds its own against Nirvana's Bleach, Mudhoney and the other usual Sub Pop suspects, but in a quieter, more pared-down way. There's still distortion, there's still drums and singing but the ep conveys gentle, dreamlike atmosphere to the listener.
To be honest, this isn't on my turntable very much, but when it does come on, it transports me.
Although it's short, it's just long enough. Magical stuff.
