5.0 out of 5 stars Get hold of this book, and learn how to let go 24 July 2001
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
Considering the sheer amount of patronising self-help books out there, it's good to know that there are books - and authors - like this who can make fun of themselves while at heart taking the subject of TRUE self-improvement extremely seriously.

Like everyone else says, you don't have to believe the far-out philosophies, but a lot of the mental exercises will have almost immediate benefits. And speaking as someone who has been referring to this book - and the author's newspaper column - for almost a year, the life improvements that can result from a new approach are ongoing.

Get hold of the book, and learn to let go of what's holding you back.

Unlike many other books available on self-improvement this one is funny, instantly accessible and it works! The short insights and exercises help you focus your energies and let your spirit flow. Should you not believe in such nonsense, buy it and try it, this book really does help me to survive and thrive in life; Since reading and following some of the advice in this book, I can honestly say my life has become more enjoyable, and it's not often you get that from a book. Buy this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Scoop some loop! 10 Sep 2002
Format:Paperback
This is an excellent book that everyone should read. Some (non-urban warrior types) may be put off by the talk of chi and centering and suchlike, but I can't think of anyone who wouldn't get something out of this handbook. I've lost count of the number of copies I've bought as presents (no doubt helping Mr. Russell (aka the Barefoot Doctor) get together enough cash to buy some shoes!)

The day I finished this book I felt about 10 foot tall and ready to take on the world (or at least help the world on it's merry way).

For some this will be a life changer, for others it could contain some useful (and amusing) advice on how to make life a little easier. Either way, an essential purchase. Enjoy...

5.0 out of 5 stars Taoism that fits! 25 Nov 2002
Format:Paperback
I found this book to be engaging, humorous and informative. I just picked it up one wet afternoon and couldn't put it down. This is the first book that I read by the Barefoot Doctor and it related Taoism to my world in a way that other texts couldn't, while making me look at life in a new and positive way. You can read it straight through from cover to cover or dip in at random according to your mood. I have read it many times and just keep getting more from it. Once you've read this one, you'll want to read more - good thing he's just written his 5th book - Liberation.

4.0 out of 5 stars It will change your life for the better 8 Nov 2002
Format:Paperback
A book about Taoism is always going to be a challenge to review but suffice to say it WILL change your life for the better. Just open your mind and cruise through the easy to read and understand chapters and practice the very simple exercises. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to open their hearts and minds to a new way of moving through their daily lives. At the end of the book you will think clearer, love stronger and see the world around them in a new and more positive way.
I gave my copy to a friend so I've just ordered another one.
