Book Description

Do you believe in fairytales?

When Hope Shepherd loses her trainer while boarding the 8.42 into Cardiff,
Cinderella couldn't be further from her thoughts. Painfully divorced, she's
all out of daydreams - and it's not a glass slipper, after all.

It's picked up, however, by a Prince Charming of sorts - DJ Jack Valentine,
who's just been divorced too. He appeals on his show for the owner to come
forward; a latterday princess being just what he needs...

Hope works as a publicist for the charity, Heartbeat, and is encouraged by
her boss to get Jack on board. A celebrity endorsement is exactly what
they're after, to raise the profile of their upcoming fun run.

So far, so good; a fairytale beginning - their mutual attraction's just too
strong to ignore. But this is the real world, and these are two damaged
people. With both of them determined not to risk another heartbreak, is a
happy-ever-after an impossible dream?

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it ! 20 Oct 2006
Format:Paperback
Although this starts out with the Cinderalla story-line don't be put off by thinking this is just a re-hash of the same old fairy tale. It isn't. This is a lovely, touching and very funny take on what it is like to deal with love, lust and relationships when you have the bruised ego and insecurities, not to mention children of a divorcee. The two main characters, Hope and Jack are both realistic and so are believeable and the way it was written was both funny and yet poignant too.

I loved it and would recommend it thoroughly. If you have never read any of LB-L's books before then this is a good place to start. You won't be disappointed. 'Virtual Strangers' and 'Straight on Till Saturday' are also well worth looking out for too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic 19 Feb 2007
Format:Paperback
I just finished reading this book, and i want to sing its praise. I loved it its a compelling read. Im a university student and even though the characters were not in my age gap it didn't matter. I read it straight for a weekend and couldn't put it down! I plan to read more of Lynne Barret-Lee books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another fabulous read from Lynne Barrett-Lee 1 Nov 2006
Format:Paperback
Fans of Lynne Barrett-Lee will love this latest offering. It's the first time she's written from a male character's point of view and she does so brilliantly and convincingly. At times I thought she must have got herself a male writing partner!

Radio DJ Jack Valentine is just getting back out there after his divorce and wants to make up for lost time by sleeping with lots of women. At least that's what he thinks he wants. Divorced mother and charity fundraiser, Hope, is similarly confused about the mysterious and scary world of post-divorce dating. When they meet, via a lost trainer and preparations for a charity fun run, you know they are going to get together, but let's face it, the path to true love isn't going to run smoothly when you're trying to protect your heart.

Lynne Barrett-Lee's books are always much more intelligent than their covers sometimes suggest, and here she writes insightfully about life and love after divorce without getting too side-tracked by the divorces themselves. Along with a touching and optimistic love story she packs in serious 'grown up' issues - dealing with an ailing parent, which I can say from personal and recent experience rings completely and heart-wrenchingly true. But don't worry, there's humour in this book too, and some excellently-drawn characters. All in all another fabulous read from an author who deserves to have a much higher profile.
