Ina Garten is the best thing to happen to cooking since fire was invented.
Family Style delivers just what it says on the cover - easy ideas and recipes that make everyone feel like family - even the cook can relax in Ina's confident and stress free company.
Ina's informal and friendly style is relayed throughout the book, from her introduction which welcomes everyone to feel like family, to planning the meal and making a schedule - really important and often ignored by other recipe writers.
The variety within each category allows for hot or cold food, many of which can be prepared in advance. Well illustrated with photos adjoining each recipe, the end result is clear to see.
Conversion tables can be found for quantities in another of her books but for the dedicated cook it's a reason to buy American measures spoons, cups etc.
At the back of the book are menus for all occasions and two short lists of ingredients and cookware that are pretty much essential in a modern kitchen.
This is my fourth Ina Garten cookbook and certainly not my last.
Cooking with Ina is relaxed but stylish, using simple contemporary ingredients to achieve memorable dishes with the minimum of fuss.
Having cooked for twenty friends last Saturday, her recipes are tried, tested and trusted to provide hearty, well flavoured and attractive dishes, that leave everyone feeling that being part of my family is truly a pleasure - a sentiment that I owe a great deal to Ina.
