Product Description

CD Description

This engaging 2-for-1 CD follows hot on the heels of Raven’s reissue of Bare’s landmark albums for Columbia, Down & Dirty...Plus (RVCD243) and Drunk & Crazy...Plus (RVCD267), which were career defining releases that consolidated his rambunctious yet poetic style. Bare’s Columbia label debut BARE (1978) saw the singer joined by song-writer Shel Silverstein for a series of freewheeling and humorous vignettes plus a couple of covers. Helping out on backing vocals were Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and Silverstein, with instrumental support from the likes of Ben Keith (pedal steel), Johnny Gimble (fiddle), Bobby Emmons (piano) and Joe Osborn (bass). The other album, also from 1978, was another stellar release featuring memorable and distinctive covers, the Rodney Crowell gem "On A Real Good Night" and some vintage rock gone country. Embellished with two 1983 bonus tracks, this is Bobby Bare at the top of his game. Tracks: Big Dupree / Finger On The Button / The Gambler / Yard Full Of Rusty Cars / Greasy Grit Gravy / Too Many Nights Alone / Childhood Hero / February Snow / This Guitar Is For Sale / Sing For The Song / Sleep Tight, Good Night Man / Hot Afternoon (Arizona Desert) / What Did It Get Me / Goin’ Up’s Easy, Comin’ Down’s Hard / The Way I Feel Tonight / Healin’ / Love Is A Cold Wind / I’ll Feel A Whole Lot Better / The Last Time / On A Real Good Night / Bonus tracks: Easy As Dreaming / Rodeo Queen.

I just love this period in Bobby Bare's long career ....and I love Shel Silverstein songs and Mr Bare does them proud.
I waited a long time for this to come out on CD .....and it was worth the wait.
Great double album from a truly great artist.

Bare Moments 11 April 2012

If you enjoy country singers that combine humorous songs with catchy, hummable tunes, Bobby Bare is worth checking out. I'd agree with the reviewer that called this a mixed bag, but that's perhaps to be expected, considering that this set combines two studio albums and is not trying to be any sort of "best of" compilation or retrospective. Nevertheless, there are some great moments on here. I'm not crazy about all of the Shel Silverstein songs, but absolutely love the fun and funky "Greasy Grit Gravy," and the title track from "Sleeper Wherever I Fall" is lovely. It's worth getting this CD (thanks to Raven for putting it together) just to hear Bobby Bare's warm vocals and his covers of tunes like "This Will be the Last Time" and the Rodney Crowell song.

This has a few really good songs, a few bad ones and a lot of in between.

It's worth getting the disc to hear Bobby's great "Going Up's Easy, Coming Down's Hard" and the Bare-ified version of the Rolling Stones "This May Be the Last Time."

And as a bonus, you get to hear Bobby recount an extremely unfortunate encounter with "Big Dupree"--one that makes "Bobby" from "Deliverance" seem lucky--complete with the worst falsetto shrieking ever put on tape.
